She's such a great story teller - lots of loveable
I am a big Jill Shalvis fan! She's such a great story teller - lots of loveable, colourful characters and engaging story lines. The fact that it was about baseball made it even better!

Really enjoyed the characters in story. Such fun. But then again I love all of Jill Shalvis books. Haven't found a bad one yet.

Heat and humor and love.
Pace Martin the the current "it" guy in baseball. As the ace pitcher for the Pacific Heat, a young expansion team, he has numerous fans, many of them women who want everything he has to offer, just not him. While he lives and breathes baseball, he does enjoy helping in the charities the team supports, as well as helping coach a rag-tag team of kids learning baseball.Holly Hutchins is an ace reporter. She's known for her blog series which digs deep into her subjects, ferreting out secrets. She's always loved her work, her life of traveling the country for her stories. However, when she gets to Santa Barbara for her summer series on the Heat, she realizes she wants, needs to settle down, to place roots. When Pace and Holly meet, it's a a game neither know how to play. He's intrigued by her, but mistrustful of her being a reporter. She's instantly attracted but knows it will not go anywhere.I've been seeing Jill Shalvis's name everywhere I go lately so I only decided it right to finally pick up a book of hers. While perusing my To-Read shelf on Goodreads, I came across Double Play. I remember it being recommended to me because of other sports related books I've read in the past. Luckily my library had a digital copy of the book so I said, why not.Why not, indeed, is definitely a good thing in this case. I loved this book, really loved it. Pace is a great hero. He's tall, dark and ever-loving sexy. He has just the right amount of arrogance to humility that makes him not only likable, but realistic.Holly is a take no nonsense kind of woman. She has to be in her line of work, digging deep in her subjects for the secrets. Luckily, she does have a moral compass which points North, so she always tries to do the right thing, even if someone ends up getting hurt, including herself. The relationship between the two is definitely heated. I really enjoyed all the superstitions surrounding the two before the games. It was funny in a way, but apparently neither really minded. I really loved how the two would come together for the kids Pace was coaching as well. It was super sweet and heartwarming. The way baseball was portrayed in the book was great too. I used to love the sport when I was growing up, even if I'm more into football nowadays. I think everything was accurately portrayed as it should have been, especially the more controversial topics of steroids and stimulants.Overall, Double Play is a good book. There's just the right amount of heat and and humor for there to be something for everyone.
