the further adventures of "Snow Dog"
This is the sequel to "Snow Dog". These are my favorite books by Jim Kjelgaard. Intrepid trapper Link Stevens and his semi-wild dog Chiri are in for a big adventure when an injured ranger rides into their camp. The ranger is tough, but his arm is badly broken and he cannot complete his mission: to find a naturalist and his pilot whose plane crashed in the unexplored virgin wilderness of the Caribou Range to the north. Link sets up the ranger in his cabin and sets out to find the downed plane. Link and Chiri's home territory is sparse and hungry this year. It is early spring. After a bad winter of trapping, Link is amazed at the bounty of nature he finds as he and his dog journey north on foot. The Caribou Range is mythic and virgin territory. Link only knows of two others who earlier ventured there, and never returned. A sign of earlier visitors to the Caribou Range is a grizzly Link is forced to kill. Its body contains the remenants of an arrow fashioned from spent ammunition. Things get complicated when Link finds a human footprint. This book is filled with even more outdoor adventure, survival, and natural beauty than the first book, "Snow Dog". It is really exciting reading.

A Wild Trek back in Time
How could I forget Chiri the husky snow dog in the novel ... Snow Dog. I 1st read the book Snow Dog as an 11 year old back in the 80's. And it went on to be one of my childhood classics. I read it no less than 22 times (believe). And I had no idea there was even a sequel, until I stumbled on it here on Amazon.Wow.And "Wild Trek" doesn't disappoint. Uniting Link and Chiri once again.Lets face it, the lead character Chiri on his own sells this book; without having to read far into the blurb. Once I knew it was him, my mind was made up to purchase the book.A great vivid, romping, wilderness adventure, with enough predators -- cougars, and wolf packs to worry about as you plowed in. Sadly, there's no book 3.A definite recommend. But 1st read Snow Dog before this to get your adventure spirit going.

Good Dog Story
Jim Kjelgaard books never disappoint me. I read Snow Dog in jr. high. And never knew it had a sequel until 50 years later. I re-read Snow Dog and then the sequel Wild Trek. Same characters but different adventure. Both books were good first one a little better. If you like outdoor novels you'll like these books. Jim Kjelgaard passed many years ago I'm glad you can still find his books on Amazon.

New found treasures
Jim Kjelgaard was one of my favorite authors in Junior High. Now 45 years later, thanks to Amazon, I am able to find books by him I never read and enjoy now as much as I did as a child.

First read it when I was 8 years old and loved it. Read it again when I was 28 ...
Classic book. First read it when I was 8 years old and loved it. Read it again when I was 28 and loved it just as much! Great story of mountain man survival and vicious predatory animals that have no fear of humans. If you like Hatchet by Gary Paulson, My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George, or Rascal by Sterling North, you will LOVE this book!

This book was a great book. I was sad when it ended
This book was a great book. I was sad when it ended. I have read a few other books by this author. I will buy a few more. I am reading them to my autistic son. He's 34, and seems to have enjoyed it.
