Most delicious of the bunch
The top reviewer has claimed that that the tomatoes are fibrous, which has not been my experience. They are without a doubt tougher and harder than the standard hunts or generic grocery store but in my mind that is an absolute plus. These tomatoes after being roughly chopped, stand up to intense cooking and retain their shape after being cooked for 2+ hours.Mix a chopped can of these tomatoes and a can of their crushed variety and you have the backbone of a delicious sauce that makes my lasagna champion level. Last time I even bought 7 dollar San Marzanos from Eataly and ran a side by side comparison, without a doubt these tomatoes, taste wise, were in a league of their own. Granted, the San Marzanos were good, but the subtle sweetness that appeals to the American palette was what made these tomatoes stand out. These and their crushed variety are without a doubt some of the best canned tomatoes in the States. I really don't see myself buying any other brand any time soon. Unless theres a decrease in quality, but to date Ive bought about 5 cases of this and the crushed variety and they all have been stellar even with a dented can once and a while.Give them a try you wont regret it.

tasty tomatoes that are poorly packaged for transport.
These tomatoes are better than the domestic tomatoes available in the grocery stores where I live (CA.), including organic brands. They are round tomatoes, not plums as shown on the label but the flavor is very good- rich and sweet. I'd say flavor is even better than Cento san marzanos (which didn't really impress me for their price the few times i tried them). The price for these is on par or better than the grocery store and quality is higher. There is one caveat: they are not packed very well for shipping. The flat is placed in a box with a couple of wads of paper on two sides of the flat (c'mon guys, add a little more cushioning and you have a home run). Have a plan in place to use a few cans soon after receiving them. Mine arrived in pretty good condition, only three cans dented and those dents were pretty minor but seeing the packaging, they could arrive really bunged up. If you use lots of tomatoes it is not much of a concern because you will get through them quickly but you should be aware.

Jersey Plums at Their Best
My Dad was a big fan of Sclafani back in the NJ 50s, 60s and 70s. I was so pleased to discover they are still around and apparently still as delicious. I just made a pot of red sauce with Sclafani plums, anchovies and eggplant. It was superb and the NJ plums get much of the credit. I rank Sclafani right up there with San Marzano. The bonus is they are noticeably less pricey. The only drawback--three cans were dented.

Decent Whole Tomatoes
Very tasty. Rich, not watery. I prefer buying WHOLE canned tomatoes -- not stewed or diced or crushed (I can crush or dice them myself if necessary.) I suspect the canners use the best tomatoes in the whole tomato products, then salvage inferior fruits for pre-prepped food products such as salsa and soup. Buy whole tomatoes! These Sclafani tomatoes are perfect for my kitchen. If there's anything better I haven't seen it. My one complaint: some of the cans are dented. Actually, maybe half of the cans are dented. Not broken. The cans are intact. But I think Amazon could have done a much better job in packaging and/or shipping. Good tomatoes, bad experience upon delivery.

Beat out Hunt's and Muir Glen in published taste tests, and after using these I agree
Sclafani Whole Peeled Tomatoes are my new favorite peeled plum tomato and go-to choice for all kinds of recipes needing peeled tomato. I had not heard of Sclafani until recently. But after reading numerous different canned tomato taste tests for both canned whole peeled and crushed tomatoes I had noticed that Sclafani Whole Peeled Tomatoes were almost always ranked #1 or right at the top over several other well known brands, like Hunts and Muir Glen. My prior staple choices for canned peeled tomatoes, Hunts and Muir Glen, were always ranked in the middle or lower. It may be the quality of the source tomatoes or it may be a function of how they are peeled and processed, a journey from field to can that involves different processing steps that vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. But generally speaking the Sclafani Whole Peeled Tomatoes have a more natural tomato taste. Both Hunts and Muir Glen are fine in their own way, we are really parsing the difference here between very good and great, not between good and bad. But the Sclafani Whole Peeled Tomatoes are ranked higher in multiple tests for a reason. I have had great success with them in several recipes and the price is just right for a quality product. RECOMMENDED.

The best canned tomatoes out there.
Yes, I had a few dented cans. We are still alive and healthy after using them. I gently squeeze and break the whole tomatoes in my hand (washed and clean). They are the most flavorful and yummy tomatoes ever! I don’t get that people have a problem with tomato seeds. I prefer the whole tomato, thank you. Leave the rich flavor In there! Diced tomatoes have no flavor in my opinion. I use these for salsa, marinara, soups...everything! I have these on subscription as I used them all the time. I will be staying with Sclafani whole peeled tomatoes.

These are some top quality tomatoes!
I enjoy looking for the best canned tomatoes. I've tried most of the top brands and those in Italian markets. These are some of the sweetest. They have no tinny flavor, semi-firm texture and the proper shape. These can easily be used to chop, since they have a good texture or smash them with your hands for a pulpy texture. IMO these are better than Cento San Marzano, which is the gold standard for Italian tomatoes.

Passable, not great
My preferred tomatoes are the Italian Pastene tomatoes, not SM, but from Italy. They have a great flavor and texture. Sclafani’s are domestic, and while they are ok, the texture is too hard and they are missing the complexity of flavor of the Pastene’s. They are decent and ok at the price, which is why I tried them, shipping on Pastene is too high right now. But don’t expect Italian standards of tomatoes just because of the name. Passable, but nothing to write home about.
