A lovely read
A lovely story about tradition and ingenuity. The art and colors seemed to jump off the pages, being of Maya heritage seeing the trajes worn by all the women was truly heart warming and reminded me of my own family and small village in Guatemala. Myself along with my class of 6/7 year olds had our own fun after reading, discussing traditions as well as other means of material for weaving that Ixchel could have used. Overall a solid book which creates a sound story centered around a young indigenous girl, definitely a book you could use for inclusion or diversity purposes without feeling like thatās the only reason it exists.

Beautiful, lovely story!
This book is amazing! I wanted to teach my students about Guatemala and the Rainbow Weaver was the perfect choice! The illustrations are stunning and the story is perfect for teaching problem-solution, and is a sweet story of trying new ideas to solve a problem. I love the introduction to Mayan culture and tradition. I canāt tell you how much I love this story. Absolutely perfect!

Cultural story that highlights the importance of perseverance
Iām always on the hunt for stories that take place in other countries or share other cultures. Weaving a Rainbow is fictional childrenās book about a little Mayan heroine. She is determined to help her family pay for her school books and does not give up. The book highlights the Mayan culture and crafts, the value of perseverance, and has an environmental spin as well. My daughter did her own recycled paper weaving to pair with the story.

Inspirational and Beautiful!
This book is a Treasure on many levels! Not only are the illustrations gloriously alive but also the way the layout of the text in both English and Spanish is so inclusively and visually attractive. The story is simple and yet VERY important. We will be using this book in our parish community and school to raise awareness of how the Mayan community is being creative with recycling plastic waste. We are hoping it will inspire us to find ways to reuse plastic.
