Colief® Infant Drops are the result of a desperate mother, Mary Buckley, trying to find a solution to her baby’s constant crying. Mary turned to her GP for help and would visit him two or three times a week with her baby Rebecca. Mary's GP felt that the cause of Rebecca's problems was linked to lactase enzyme deficiency and remembered seeing a product containing lactase enzyme on sale in the USA which, when added to milk, allowed people with lactase deficiency to consume milk or dairy products without unpleasant side effects. It occurred to Mary that this lactase enzyme product could be specially formulated for babies with transient lactase deficiency. Initial hospital trials in Cork showed that the product also had a pronounced effect on babies with colic. The trial was small but the results were significant and were published in the professional ‘Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics’ in September 1998. It showed that, by breaking down most of the lactose in baby’s feed by adding lactase enzyme drops to the milk a number of hours before feeding, the hours of crying were significantly reduced. These results were confirmed by a subsequent, larger trial at Guys Hospital in London, which was published in October 2001.

Good but expensive option
I was desperate with the colic of my 7 week old baby. Researching in Babycenter.com a mom said that these drops were great for lactose intolerance in her baby but they were sold only in UK. I looked in Amazon and I was so glad they sell them. The drops came directly from UK, they were expensive but with an infant with colic you would try anything. They worked wonders in my baby so he stopped crying and pushing trying to pass the excessive amounts of gas that the lactose in my own milk was producing in him (I'm 100% breastfeeding). My cons: The bottle is so small (only 7ml) and it lasted less than 2 weeks nursing 8 times a day. Another con is that since I'm breastfeeding I had to pump a couple of teaspoons of milk, add the 4 drops, give the little milk to my baby in a medicine cup, and then immediately nurse normally. This is a little bit of a hassle but it was totally worth it. I just bought here in US Lactase Drops (also in Amazon) at the same price and it contains 30ml. It hasn't arrived yet, so I don't know if they will work as good as these Colief drops. I hope they arrive soon since my baby is back to his gassiness state. love this stuff
my baby had constipation problems with formula and this is the only thing that helped...the only draw back is you have to wait 30 min after u make the bottle before you can feed it to the baby...that is kind of hard to do when you have a hungry baby on your hands.

Miracle drops.....
I was pretty desperate for my baby to be happy and comfortable after 6 weeks of misery. His fussiness started about 5 days after he was born. I could tell that he was very uncomfortable, gassy, spitting up, wouldn't sleep on his back, was only really content to sleep in the semi upright position (like on my chest). His sleep was fitful and he cried terribly.I tried altering my dairy intake, I tried gripe water and gas drops, massage and leg pumps, but that only helped for a little while, and then he was right back to it. On a whim I bought these drops. I had seen them before, but the cost deterred me because they are expensive. However if you're reading this review, chances are you understand how desperate you can get, so I decided to try them. By the 4th dose, My son slept for 4 hours straight without fussing!! When he woke up he didn't cry, and actually smiled and cooed for the first time when I changed him. He isn't red faced and straining or burping (like an adult :) and he isn't fitful or in pain trying to poop. We have been using the drops for 8 days now. The instructions are a bit cumbersome. If I am nursing for a feed, I use a little expressed milk(only about a tsp.) that I've stored in the fridge, warmed under warm water and add the drops in a small lidded container, then suck it up into a dropper, and give him it, right before nursing. Or if he's taking a bottle of expressed milk, I do the same, however you can warm the milk and add to the bottle, but have to wait 30 minutes. I think this is to give time for the enzyme to work. It also says too cold or too hot breaks down the enzyme, so stresses only WARM milk or formula. The instructions for formula feeding, seem a bit easier if you are using formula. Regardless of the instructions, these drops get a 5 star review from me. Without wanting to sound corny, they have changed our life. My baby is finally happy comfortable and we all know a happy baby = a happy mama! :)p.s. wish I had tried them with my 20 month old...she was just as fussy, but we hadn't tried these. :)

Saving Grace!
I'm pregnant with my second child and I'm stocking up on this stuff! I tried everything when my first child had colic: reflux meds, gas drops, tummy massage, herbal remedies...and this was the only thing that worked. I work for a dairy company and understand the composition of milk. Milk has lactose and protein that is tuff for a newborn baby's tummy to digest. A couple drops of this stuff in your milk or formula helps break down the lactose and make it easier for baby to digest, making them cry less. Bottome line...it's worth the money.

LIFE SAVER!!
These drops dont just help colic... they also cure constipation!!!!!!My daughter was 15 weeks when I started her on these drops in each feed. She was very constipated and only managing to poo every 4-5 days. Doctor suggested changing milk to Lactose Free SMA (currently on cow & gate) but I was very reluctant to change as I know this can cause massive tummy upsets. I was recommended trying these drops by multiple other mums on a baby forum. I cannot tell you the instant change I saw in my daughter it was amazing!! She is now pooing EVERY day and is much happier. AMAZING!!!! Highly recommend defo worth every penny!!!!!

worked for us!!
this worked well to keep our little boy comfortable while his tummy matured to be able to tolerate the lactate in my milk.its a bit of a faff when you're breastfeeding but I just did the few drops on the nipple technique after he'd swallowed a little milk already and it seemed to work enough. the reason they dont recommend this way is to ensure the enzyme doesnt get denatured by saliva or stomach acid. in our case it definitely improved colic symptoms. some ppl use it in addition to infacol too so a combination.

Not worth it, sadly.
Gutted. So wanted this to work but as with most gas baby solutions it was a lot of hype for nothing. The only thing that has actual evidence of working is pro biotic and this isn’t it. Such a tiny bottle I’m almost glad it didn’t work because I couldn’t afford the cash to keep it up!

Made my baby vomit
I bought this for my 6wk old daughter who has been suffering with colic for weeks. Nothing else has worked so we thought we'd try this. She's had two feeds today prepared according to instructions but is now constantly being sick and I mean projectile vomit, even feeds without colief are making her sick now and she wasn't like this before so it must be the colief and it's very expensive so I don't recommend but just because it hasn't worked for us doesn't mean it won't for you

Mmm not sure, probably does work but not for me!
Sorry, can’t give much of a review on this as I tried to use in SMA but having to wait half hour to then give the bottle is madness! So sacked it off! Turns out my baby has a CMPA anyways so we’ve ended up on prescription milk now.
