Good book for helping one understand the very basics in developing a therapeutic relationship. While this book is Bionically based it does offer a lot of good information that is applicable across all spectrum's of life. The information would be beneficial to a pastor, youth, pastor, or any member of clergy needs to know for counseling. It is a great starter.

Purchased for a class
I am currently getting a counseling degree and this book was required for the class. I have enjoyed reading the information provided by the authors and have found it to be both interesting and useful. I think this will be a good reference book. It gives an overview of the counseling process (which means that it does not go into great depth) but does a good job providing the necessary tools in a concise fashion.

Great seller
Book arrived super quick. Minor wear but I didn’t care. It has character ... lol. All pages were intact and the book had no writings or scribbles so ... A+.

Basic, but biased.
Founded on a Christian world-view and ONLY a Christian world-view, this text will leave the Christian counselor at a loss when they enter the workforce. Unless the counselor is working for a Christian agency, the first thing they will notice is that going in with an "only my world-view is correct" perspective will land them in trouble, and possibly an ethical dilemma on the job. While I am a Christian, I do NOT agree with the foundation that "only a conservative Christian world-view" is correct, and neither will the counselee.I am further unimpressed with the great lengths the authors go to in order to discredit the use of valid psycho-social therapies, merely because they do not adhere to a Christian world-view. Therapists such as Carl Rogers, like him or not, have paved the way for ALL counselors (including Christians) to make an incredible impact on their world. I would suggest the authors return to the works of Dr. Larry Crabb and Mark McMinn who, instead of disparaging Psychology, suggested a way to fully integrate it with Theology and Spirituality.Overall, this is a book does cover the basics. It suffers a bit in how it does this by using endless 'acrostics', rather than treating students as intelligent enough to understand concepts without these mundane tools. It will give the "novice counselor" an idea of the "how", but it will only be through practice that the counselor will truly become themselves.

Excellent book
This is an excellent book detailing what the counseling journey is all about. As one who is preparing to become a counselor, this book, unlike any other book I've yet read, details what goes into the counseling process. After you finish the book, you have a good understanding what you will experience when you are in the field counseling your own client. I loved this book.

Great resource for the counseling student
I read this textbook for a counseling class I recently took. It is really engaging and has a tremendous amount of information for the beginning counseling student. An unusual feature in this text are the acronyms that were provided for most of the counseling principles discussed in the text. I found the acronyms interesting and helpful for breaking down and remembering these concepts.

Very in-depth look.
A good in-depth look at many areas of Christian Counselling. They book gives a lot of information. It's definitely not a quick read in my opinion. One thing I don't like is that I find the authors rather repetitive throughout the book. Maybe that's great to install a thought to the reader but I find it redundant at time that they repeat a thing numerous times, pages apart. At times it is just a simple change of a word here or there. Just my own opinion. Aside from that though very information and a great resource book.
