Q: will this work on womans shoes?

Yes, it should. I found that the end of the lace can nicely be put inside the shoe on the arch side. The little pocket formed between the shoe side and the arch is perfect to hold the excess length.

Q: The description says these are elastic. Do they stretch?

I have the black ones, and no, they don't stretch.

Q: How long is each shoestring?

I did not measure the length of each string, but it is really long, plenty enough even for the largest shoes. Don't make the mistake that I did when working on the first shoe. I missed the top eyes which were set apart and slightly higher from the rest, cut the strings, then realized what happened. The first string ended up too short to work. I had to string the shoes anyway with the shorter length, then sew the two pieces of string together with needle and thread to extend to the needed length (the strings are large enough to sew them together). It worked out in the end, but took a very long time and much frustration. As they say, measure twice, cut once.
