My favorite mechanical pencil! Thick, sturdy, and doesn't waste lead.
The best mechanical pencil I have tried. I bought a box of 12 for $12.99 in Sept. 2015 on Amazon. What I'm looking for in a mechanical pencil: - Fits well in my hand, which includes the length and the cross-section diameter. I prefer pencils that are a little thicker than a normal Ticonderoga. - Not too light, but not too heavy. - Maximizes the use of lead. Cannot stand pencils that waste the last 1/4 inch of lead. - Comfortable grip that actually works. - Short distance from where fingers grip pencil to where the lead comes out. I like to mix up the way I hold the pencil as I write to whatever is most comfortable. Sometimes I hold the pencil very close to the tip, sometimes I hold the pencil at the far end of the grip. I value a versatile pencil that allows various ways to grip it. - Removable clip; the clip causes the pencil to be asymmetrical, which feels weird in my hand. I carry pencils in my pocket or backpack so I don't need a clip. - 0.5 mm lead size. For my handwriting, this is the best size for visibility while not sacrificing the strength of the lead. This pencil:Uses 0.5 mm lead. It has medium weight and is about 5.75 inches long with a plastic clip on the side. Comes with a 1/2 inch eraser and a cap where you load the lead (rear-loaded). The pencil is made of plastic, but doesn't feel cheap. The grip is a softer plastic.Likes: - Perfect length and thickness. The thickness is about 0.75 inch, more akin to thicker pens. - Grip works. Very simple, thin, comfortable. - Doesn't waste as much lead! This is the ONLY mechanical pencil I've used that can use down to 3mm of lead (smaller than 1/8 inch). On most other pencils, the lead falls out at about 1/4 inch. - Weight is perfect. Not too heavy, not too light. Enough weight so you can feel when you write. - Distance from tip to grip is about 0.5 inch. The grip is 1.5 inch. I can hold the pencil close to the tip, far from the tip, and anywhere in between. Versatile. My issues: - The clip is not removable and is fairly large. I was able to remove most of the clip by breaking it off. The pencil is long enough so the broken clip doesn't interfere with my hand, so the clip isn't a huge issue. My recommendation:My favorite mechanical pencil! This was one of the first mechanical pencils I used. I tried many other more expensive mechanical pencils but I always return back to this one. It has the perfect weight, length, and thickness; it doesn't waste as much lead as other mechanical pencils; it's cheap. Definitely the best.

The best mechanical pencils on the market
Studying? Journaling? Taking notes? These are the mechanical pencils for you. They feel well-built, comfortable to hold, and write fantastically. The 12 pack is a good value, it'll last you forever. Highly recommend.

Great mechanical pencil relative to the cost.
I have used many, and I do mean many, mechanical pencils and while some might have had a more comfortable grip and others might have a look some would consider more appropriate for an office environment I have found these to have a generally comfortable grip, decent styling and they work really well. I bought one many months ago at a store to see if I liked it and then bought two dozen more because I liked them so much.

Great pencils!
These mechanical pencils are so comfortable to write with. They have a slightly cushioned grip and a nice, large eraser. I have enjoyed using this type of mechanical pencil for a long time. I purchased the first one I bought of this type about 10 years ago and I still use that one now, but it’s nice to have some more of them to keep in the various locations I use them in.

My Favorite Mechanical Pencil!
I have used this Pentel e-sharp Automatic Pencil for many years. My old one never wore out. I just wanted to buy some new so I could have some at work and some at home. I am a teacher and use this pencil every day to take notes while I am working with a student. It works great! I will tell you that I use a 2H lead which is harder than the traditional HB hardness. Even with that, this pencil never lets me down. Also, it has a nice big eraser and it is easy to get the refills for that. I thank Pentel for continuing to make this model. It has stood the test of time.

Top tier.
Works like a charm. Very comfortable and practical; saves lead too. Only minor concern is that the grip might move or loosen a bit over time.

The perfect pencil for arthriticy fingers
I tend to use this slightly thicker lead as opposed 0.5 so that it doesn't break so easily. Being dyslexic I always use a pencil so I can rub out spelling mistakes and the Pentel Automatic pencils have the very best comfortable rubbery grip to them. Ordinary pencils just slip out of my fingers or they have hard grips which aren't comfortable.

Excellent product.
I owned my last one of these for over a decade before losing it at work, gutted! Easy to grip, the lead lasts for ages and just works like it should!

GOOD EVERYDAY PENCIL
Great grown up pencils. I am not an artist, or a draftsman, nor do I even have very great penmanship - but I still want my pencils to perform!I wouldn't call the lead "fine", but it is just shy of a medium point. The lead is just right for every day use, like the old HB pencils I used in grade school. The eraser is great! It's got some heft, erases well, and doesn't fall out like some of the eraser heads on cheaper mechanical pencils. Comfortable soft grip.Good buy!
