UPDATE: If you use them all year round they are outside in the elements all the time. I purchased 2 and the first one failed about 2 years in...and the second one is rusted and not working year 3. Time to repurchase. Wish they would have lasted a bit longer...so dropping to 4-star...but overall still a good product.______________________________________________________________________________________So the problem I have found is that people are saying the traps will not set. The reason is that the traps are super sensitive..as they should be. If the moles is 2-6 inches below ground, the sensor needs to know when the the dirt is pushed upwards. So even a minor quake (like hear in Oklahoma) or even a rain could trigger them.The other issue is placing the traps in the correct location. You cannot put the traps near mole hills or holes, it just will not work. The traps need to be placed on tunnel lines. Once you have placed the traps on the lines (usually indicated by lines of raised soil or grass) then you need to walk all the lines and push them back down in the dirt. Also, level and fill all the hills. The next morning look for new activity and move traps as necessary only after a few days if you don't catch one. But you can usually catch the mole the next morning if the trap was set along a mole tunnel line.

Most IMPORTANT is to understand how Moles live. They have a den. They also have main corridors they use over and over every day. They also have side line corridors they use maybe only once.To have success, you MUST step down on all the tracks you see. Wait until the next morning and view the area again. Some tracks will be raised again. Choose one, or if you have multiple traps choose as many tracks as you have traps.Lightly step down all the tracks and set the trap on the tracks you have chosen. Wait until the next morning. You will see some of the same tracks raised again, and some will not be raised. IF you set a trap in one of the main corridors, you will most likely have a mole. If the tracks you chose were not raised again, then you know you chose a side corridor. Chose a different track and repeat the process. Eventually, you will discover the main corridors that are used daily. You will then have success!It took me three days before I had success.ONE MORE THING! If you like in an area of hard soil, you may need to loosen the soil where the scissors are to be deployed. The springs on these things is are very strong. But they may not be strong enough to cut through some soils without you first loosening the before you set the trap.Good Luck!

I bought 2 of these traps because I saw a You Tube video showing how easy they are to set. I previously was using the kind where you have to dig out the tunnel, insert the trap, then backfill. I liked the idea of this trap because you don't have to dig. You set the trap by stepping on it. In theory, this is great. In practice, you have to get it set just so, with the metal circle trip plate being completely inside the hole on the bottom plate. The trip plate can't be resting on the metal bottom plate. This takes a few tries and some practice, and it's not easy when you are trying to do it with your foot, and it's not easy to see what you're doing. Anyway, once you get it set properly, it is good at dispatching moles. Today, as I was trying to set it, the metal circle trip plate broke off (see photo), rendering the trap useless. Mind you, this thing is METAL, not plastic, and I have only used it about 4 or 5 times since I started using it in April. So, tricky to set, works well, broke. I hope the second one doesn't break -- I have some moles to catch.

Major mole problem here. I live on 10 acres and the moles have seriously destroyed the property. We have tried many different ways of trying to get rid of them. I purchased 4 of these and decided to give them a try. Less than 12 hours and 2 of the traps were sprung!!! 2 moles down and probably many more to go. I am excited to be seeing results already!These are so easy to set by stepping on them. They are a little harder to release when you have a dead mole in them. But happy with the results so far.

We are pleased to have trapped 2 moles in 2 days. Hoping for more. Product works well.
