Jim Butcher's Dresden Files: War Cry

A great addition to the on-going storyline of the Dresden File series...
For fans of the Dresden Files series the story War Cry takes place chronologically just after Dead Beat. However, reading this before completing Turn Coat will reveal a major spoiler from the novel series— perhaps best left until after completing that book to keep the a surprise. If introduced to Dresden by the graphic novels, this may pique interest to dive into the actual novels themselves.A secret conflict is raging across the world, from the shadows of ancient Sicily to the nighttime streets of Chicago—a war between vampires of the Red Court and Wizards of the White Council, protectors of the innocent. The bad guys are winning. In fact, the Council is so desperate to reinforce their decimated ranks that they’ve turned to someone they’ve long considered untrustworthy: Harry Dresden. Now a Warden, Harry’s been tasked with leading a team of your inexperienced wizards—and their first mission will determine the outcome of the war with the Red Court. Harry and three young Wardens find themselves defending a Venatori outpost from Red Court attack and leaving more questions than answers. This hardcover book is a nice addition for any fan of the Dresden File series that just can’t get enough of Harry and the chaos surrounding his life. I did notice in my copy that there were a few points where the text appears to either mis-spell a word or phrase a sentence slightly off grammatically but it’s nothing that takes away from the overall story itself— just a small bump that gives a brief pause when reading. I enjoy seeing a visual story of characters new and old in the Dresden series. Carlos Gomez does a nice job illustrating Butcher’s story adapted by Mark Powers for this graphic novel.

Loved the story.

Excellent
The graphics are much better 👌 than Fool Moon. I think I liked them even more than Storm Front but those were pretty good too. Only thing is I thought Thomas was blond not brunette. But it's been a while since I read the books so I may be remembering wrong.

A pretty good untold story
Set within the chronology of the whole Dresden saga (and Butcher does do a good job of keeping it all straight and yet not letting the details slow the story) This is a different background, rather unlike the books, but the characters all sound like they do in the books, (This may not be true of all the Dresden comic adaptations) It has Harry leading a mission, with underlings and enemy action and such, and Harry stepping up in the end. Not just a retelling or a rehash of a similar story in one of the books.

Impossible to read on Kindle app
Others have complained about how this can't be read on Kindle - I want to add that if you're thinking about reading on the Kindle App you're going to be frustrated, too. Some of the 'best' pages in these comics are the 'splash' pages, that in the actual comic take up the two open pages you're looking at when you've got the thing open. Unfortunately, the Kindle app holds each image to a constant width, so the splash pages show up as very tiny, with unreadable text and tiny art. This would be easy for Amazon to fix by making the Kindle app have a feature to zoom in on the image. The best you can do is full-screen the page, which makes the image slightly larger. Another fix is to connect a laptop to a huge monitor, I guess, but I buy ebooks so I can read them anywhere.Do not buy any of these Dresden Files comics as an e-book until Amazon adds the ability to zoom in on images. Which should have been included on Day 1.

Interesting read
Always nice to read more about Dresden and the new Wardens! I like the younger wardens, so getting to read an adventure featuring them is just wonderful. Enjoyed the artwork, too.

This is a nice adaptation from book to comic.
Good art style. This is a nice adaptation from book to comic. Nice original stories from the author. Works really well on the Kindle Fire, but wouldn't do well on Kindle paperwhite, as you really need the color. The Kindle-exclusive content is not really that impressive. The price is okay for the Kindle version, but I am an avid Jim Butcher fan, so it was worth it to me. If you are fans of the Dresden files, you will really enjoy this!

Official fanfiction?
Eh, it was... Okay.It didn't feel as if it followed the books very closely. It read more like fanfiction than official stuff. Things like everyone using Harry's faux-latin incantations for one thing, or ignoring assets that Harry had during the time period. The art, however, is amazing. It was worth the time to read it, but I don't think it was worth the money to buy. If you can get it cheaply, is a completionist of the Dresden Files, or simply want it due to gorgeous art, get it, but otherwise, I can not really recommend it.

Good accompaniment to the series
Really good reading, it's great to see Dresden an co just like you would imagine. I would say he would be a fan of the comic himself...you know, if he wasn't in it.Really good and worth it
