Minn Kota 1854051 MKA-51 Electric Steer Trolling Motor Quick Release Bracket, Black

Product does exactly what it is designed to do. The fact that you need to mount the top plate to the motor, mate the two pieces together and then align the entire bracket with the trolling motor attached makes for a cumbersome package to align on the bow of the boat. Having two persons to do this makes things much simpler and saves in making any mistakes. Unit locks together well with no rattles or loose feeling. Haven't tried it on the water yet but appears that it will serve it's purpose well.

I suspect many unsuspecting boat owners have the Minn Kota "MKA-51 ELEC STEER QCK REL BRKT." If you do, know that this product WILL FAIL (read Minn Kota's product page to see another post of this happening and continue reading for my own story). My entire $2k Terrova RT would have been entirely lost when the plastic underside lock tabs broke. My Terrova motor was hardwired to the boat, which was the only thing that kept from sinking. Seeing so much milled aluminum on the outside, I assumed that quality was throughout. But absurdly, the only part of the top mount locking the entire weight and operating torque of the trolling motor to the bottom bracket lug is entirely PLASTIC. If you own this bracket, tether it to your boat ASAP. Do not buy or install otherwise bcuz there is nothing you can do fix the design flaw of the plastic locking components.As for service, I have to also give Minn Kota an "F." After having tech support suggest I might have caused the failure, the technician assured me they were shipping the exact replacement bracket (although only after I proved to have already shipped back the failed part). However, 3 days later I received a completely unrelated part.

Still have 3 inches exposed past rub rail to potentially damage the motor. At this price bracket should retract at least 9 inches.
