Tiger Balm Red Extra strength Herbal Rub Muscles Headache Pain Relief Ointment Big Jar, 30g (Thailand Edition)

I've seen several reviews from folks complaining about the "weak" or watered-down US version of Tiger Balm (or that they got "scammed".) Well, you're right about the "weaker" version, but you weren't "scammed"— there ARE two different kinds of the "red" Tiger Balm. That's because in the US, the FDA allows a maximum of 11% camphor in products. And if you look closely, you will notice that the NAME of the Tiger Balm varies depending on where it's sold. US: "Red Extra Strength" (11%); ASIA: "Red Ointment" or just "Red" (25%).Unfortunately, this rule only seems to apply to the US. It appears that Tiger Balm sold as "Red" in the UK, Canada, France, Germany, and the Netherlands most likely only contain 11%. But the US is the only country that requires this percentage of camphor and menthol to be listed on the Tiger Balm the website. (The latter being 10% across the board, FYI.) So there ya go. This is by no means a hard and fast rule, but the products in the US are sold under a slightly different name than those elsewhere and have an FDA-limited amount of camphor.I've included a few of photos to illustrate this point. The "Red Extra Strength" was purchased at Walmart and was produced in Malaysia. The "Red Ointment" was purchased online and was produced and shipped from Thailand. The Malaysian 11% camphor product is darker in color, and oddly has a stronger smell than the Thai, 25% camphor product which is lighter in color and does not smell as strong. I applied a liberal amount of the 25% camphor Tiger Balm on my knees and it did cause redness all over the area where applied (the 11% did not), but the redness did not last more than a couple of hours and was not painful— just maybe a little extra "tingly". This is just one of the side effects the FDA warns about, and is one of the reasons that 11% camphor is the max allowed in the States.Just for fun I've also included a pic of a really old Tiger Balm jar. Since the label is long gone I have no idea where it was produced, but check-out the embossed characters on the side and the tiger on the bottom of the jar.

My daughter let me try her Tiger Balm a while back and I wasn't impressed as it is the mild version. But this Tiger Balm Red ointment is the real deal! Smell is amazing, Lasts a good amount of time, and brings the cold heat I was looking for!

I use this at night for a lower back problem. It works awesome! Because of the smell I don't wear during the day.

I use on feet at night to relieve pain and wear ankle socks to avoid getting into sheets. Side benefit was elimination of cracked skin and relief from athletes foot. Also use on hands to relieve soreness. Scent can be strong so I crack a window for fresh air. Recently went to friend's 70th bday party. Laughed because take-home gift included small tin of tiger balm. Guess the word is out!

This product will provide you with quick and long pain relief. Just be patient to massage the balm into your muscle or joint.

I always keep this in my home. It's great stuff for stiffness, soreness and painful joints.A must have stable for arthritis

I have heard about Tiger Balm for ages from friends and travel blogs and I have heard only good things. A little while back I pulled a muscle in my neck and nothing seemed to be able to give me any relief. I went to CVS and was shocked at the price for a small jar so I turned to Amazon and was not disappointed. For the same price as a small jar at the store I got a big one off Amazon. This is one thing that really lives up to the hype! It worked really well relieving my muscle ache and have since used it both to clear my nose when I have a cold and to stop bug bites from itching (since I work outside in Florida a lot the latter is a must!).One of the greatest thing about Tiger Balm is just how long the jar lasts. I would say I use it fairly regularly and it still feels like I have not made a dent in the jar. Only small amounts are needed to do a lot of good. Something that many people have mentioned is the smell and I really think it is a personal preference. I generally don't mind the smell but even if it is a day where I don't like it I still find that the smell is worth it for the quality of the product.

I have to admit I was a SERIOUS skeptic about this product. Never had any success with topical balms/ointments/creams. This is definitely different. Not sure why or how, but it is. After I had been getting good results using this on my neck and shoulders my wife was willing to try it and it worked for her as well. Not believing me not of my sons tried it for their back pain (muscular not nerve) and they both said it worked for them as well. As a bonus I actually like the smell. I’m definitely going to continue using this!

Have used this all my life and so does my family. Helps everything from headaches, muscle pain, to nasal congestion and overall soothing remedy when I feel anxious. I think that’s something from my childhood though, since my grandma used this all the time. By the I do feel significantly better when using this for all of the mentioned conditions. I can’t go without it!

This jar was 1/3 the size of what the description said it would be. It said it would be 7.5x7.5x10 cm. Rip off

Works better than 20 yrs ago it used to stain your cloths. Did not stain and works so good one of my two favorite go to creams/ointments.
