The Good:These boots are gorgeous. Best leather I've seen and I've had lots of high quality boots. The leather will not need maintenance as soon as others. Its thick, tough ,has plenty of oil from the factory, and beautiful grain. I'm a long time redwing fan and these really impressed me with build quality Love the slippery fabric on the inside. Feet glide right in and the reduced friction will help your feet from wearing through the fabricThe bad:There is fake stitching around the sole. these boots are very heavy (have to keep them pretty tight to have no heel slip). I have narrow feet and the steel toe is tight against the side of my big toes and slightly behind. The tongue has WAY TOO MUCH material!! Unless you have massive tree trunk legs and kankles or keep them untied you will have a lot of bunched up leather around your leg. You can cut some of it out, but you shouldn't have to at this price. Main issue was for 6-8 months wearing these boots 10hrs a day, the right side of my lower back, hips and legs slowly started to hurt until I could barley walk. Switched my boots and felt immediate relief within two days. Come to find out one boot sole/rubber was a little more than a 1/16" .0710 taller with the insole removed or installed. Used a machine shop too to verify. Doesn't sound like much, but it got me to the point where I had to call out of work.I really wanted to love these boots, but the quality impressed me enough to not scare me away from Thorogood boots. Ill have to try another model

I am writing this review to hopefully help people in the future who are looking to buy these boots and have read or will read some of the negative reviews about the tongue and how it makes the boot very uncomfortable. I am here to tell you that yes, it can be very uncomfortable, unbearable even, if you don’t fold the tongue properly. I, like many of the other bad reviews on here, put the boots on for the first time and noticed what seems to be a lot of material there for the tongue. Wrong way #1 I found was to tuck it flat to the side of my ankle and laced up the boots. It was painful, too much material in the ankle area. The material bunches up and digs into your ankle when you walk. I also saw reviews to just cut the tongue and that way the material has a place to go and doesn’t bind. Although I was very close to doing this, I could bring myself to do it to boots of this quality. This is partially Wrong way #2, although it would solve the issue. The picture I included shows the correct way to fold the tongue so the material is in front of the ankle instead of binding next to it. I am a week and a half in of wearing these boots 9-10hrs a day and walk an average of about 6k-8k steps a day. These boots are comfortable and I expect them to last 2-3 years before needing a re-sole or anything with my average use. Hope this helps potential future buyers! Also in case you need to know, I have worn Red Wings a lot in the past and these boots are about the same comfort and quality in my opinion. I actually had a pair of Red Wings on order but they were on back order and going to be a while so I took a chance on the Thorogood boots. I am very pleased!

Extremely well built and look great but they are narrow. Got the EE and to narrow for me. Sent back with to try something else but I truly hate it because they are very nice boots

2 years of daily wear. took a few weeks to break in, no cutting of the tongue, learn how to fold it correctly the first day. Once it breaks in, no reversing it. Getting ready to order second pair.

My first pair of AMERICAN MADE work boots. I had all the big boot names before as I’m a welder and cheap boots don’t last. Every single boot I’ve ever bought was inferior in one or more ways to these thorogoods. Ariat, Georgia, and red wing were some that I’ve tried and didn’t dislike them too bad until 6 months with my thorogoods holding up so great, it’s made me despise those other brands for inferiority in quality, comfort, LONGEVITY, and everything important to you when it comes to boots. I will buy the thorogood 1957s again and again. I should mention, my left foot is slightly deformed from a motorcycle accident and comfort is huge for me and these boots keep my bum foot feeling good all day. Please never stop making the straight heal shank 1957s THOROGOOD! I love love love them

The boots are cool but not so much of the comfortable part would be better if the had better insoles but over all good boots

Great boots. Pricey but worth every penny!

First they fit perfect out of the box, if you’re not used to this style boot remember when they’re on your feet they’re gonna look a little bigger it’s just a design. Break and took about three days after that no issues. With that being said the first day I warm for 12 hours straight no issues. You’re gonna have to retire I am about every hour or two so that way we can form to your foot. Everybody crying about the tong doesn’t know how to use it you fold the tongue up towards the top part of your foot both sides in so it’s resting in the front not on the sides in the front. Food is been already been fully submerged in water no leaks. Don’t hesitate pick them up and this is coming from a guy that owns a $700 pair of Frank’s $600 pair nicks. These aren’t custom-made but Have a very nice fit very happy

great boots….zero tongue issues.arrived 3 days early too. 👏👏
