The Power of Sprinkles: A Cake Book by the Founder of Flour Shop

I bought this book so I could make the Rainbow Explosion Cake for my daughter's birthday. Her recipe breaks everything down into manageable steps so you can do it at home, and it turned out great. I did make a practice cake before the one for the big day and here are the adjustments I made: 1) do use Mexican vanilla - it really does taste better. 2) I used 5 drops of food coloring in each cake to get the color intensity shown 3) she says you don't need to level off the cakes, but it made a much better result when I did. 4) if your frosting gets too warm, put it in the fridge in between frosting the layers 5) I used wooden dowels to further stabilize the cake, and 6) practice!!I don't consider myself an expert cake maker, but this book should be fun for the expert, accessibly challenging for the "pretty good" baker, and full of fun learning for the novice. Glad I bought it and will make the other cakes for other special occasions.

I love Flour Shop cakes and I love to bake, so I bought this book the day I saw it for pre-order on Amazon. What I didn't realize is that this book would be absolutely beautiful! Usually I keep my cookbooks on bookshelf or in a closet, but this book is going on my coffee table. It's basically an art book that also teaches you how to make amazing cakes. Obviously she is known for her explosion cakes, but my favorite cake in the book so far is the Pancake Cake or the Watermelon cake.I can't wait to see if I can bake the cakes, and I hope I can make them look like Amirah's! Her cakes are so colorful, pretty and fun. After glancing at the recipes, she lays out the steps in a very easy to understand way. Sometimes books assume you know exactly how to do a step or even skip some steps, but this book is straightforwards and shows many of the steps and the ingredients.

What a fabulous fun book. It was clearly well written and explained so one could pick up the instructions very easily. I couldn’t put it down and will try my best to make all the cakes at the appropriate times. I already ordered the cake pans from WIlliams Sonoma before even finishing reading. I’m taking everything I need to the Bahamas with me to surprise everyone for New Years. I’ve ordered the basic sprinkles and ‘paint’ but must get the sparkles for the new year. Thank you so much for creating a smashing book, love, love, love it.

Love the author's take on cakes. Great presentation on cakes. They can be a lil challenging if ur a beginner. However, with a lil patience you got this. Great display for ur kitchen. She was on the Today show. She mainly does small but huge in height. A small piece is huge. On pinterest you can find many cakes that these without having to buy the book. I just love a great colorful cookbook.

My 11 year old begged me for this at the museumOf naturalHistory I right away found it on Amazon. We haven’t made anything from it yet but it’s one of her faves

The stars I’m giving are honestly more for the book aesthetics and photography than anything else. Unfortunately, there is only one actual cake recipe in the entire book (which kind of blew my mind...). The idea being that you can use just her plain simple vanilla cake mix and decorate it in extravagant ways. There is no chocolate, no nothing but vanilla cake. It’s cool that it has a detailed instructional on assembling the explosion cake, but after that it’s really just variations on a theme. Not sure that I will ever use this book for anything, but it is a beautiful book.

Yes, there is only one recipe. That doesn’t mean you can’t branch out and use any other cake recipe! The fun is all centered (haha!) around the surprise inside of the cake. This book really sparks with creativity!

Just received the pre-ordered copy that I ordered a few months ago. It doesn't disappoint! You pretty much get access to the secrets behind Flour Shop's best, most famous cakes. I love the little stories included with each recipe, and even as a novice baker, I feel like I can make these cakes. People are going to go nuts when I come to the next party with a rainbow explosion cake!

The most delicious Baking Book... So easy to follow and really delightful to see and read!
