The Spellbook of Katrina Van Tassel: A Story of Sleepy Hollow

A Great Feminist Sleepy Hollow Retelling
The Spellbook of Katrina Van Tassel is a historical retelling of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” but from the POV of Katrina Van Tassel. I was hesitant to get this at first because I do tend to be wary of the books I get, but after a couple of chapters, I was heavily invested in this book. The story takes place before, during, and after the Halloween season where you guessed it: Ichabod Crane comes to town and Katrina becomes smitten with him while Brom Bones still competes for Katrina’s affections to little impact at first before Ichabod disappears. This story gives a lot more background and history to the era the original story is set. Such as taking place not too many years after the revolution and one of Katrina’s closest allies is a slave woman who Katrina always treats kindly. She also has a best friend that is known through town as a witch and there might be some merit to that. The downside to this book is its length. While I enjoyed the book for what it was, I do feel some chapters could have been shortened or left out altogether.Regardless, this is an excellent retelling for fans of Sleepy Hollow, though be warned it is for more mature readers.

October is the perfect month for this book..
I have no idea why it took me 2 years to get to this book...October is the perfect month for Sleepy Hallow. But, this book is about so much else...True love and great friendships...Death and lies...You get everything in this book...Even a Headless Horseman...I thoroughty enjoyed this book. I think you will also...

If you're a fan of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow this is a must read!
I was really excited to get this book. As a fan of Sleepy Hollow and the Headless horseman I'm always excited to see new works. I have read several "spinoffs" and some have fallen flat and others LIKE THIS ONE have blown me away!! I devoured this book and I'm already recommending it to my friends. Truly a great read!!

At Least I Finished It
Okay so this book initially sounded great but I was expecting more spooky, mystery thriller and less whiny teen angst. This books is a prefect example of 21st century morals forced upon 18th century characters. It was very difficult for me to suspend belief and enter this relaunch of an American classic. Katrina is nothing more than a conniving and manipulative spoiled brat. Ichabod is now, apparently, a hottie. Only Brom Bones remained the bully he was from the original. I will give high praise to the character of Charlotte Jensen, however. She was an intriguing character, worthy of a good mystery. All in all, though, the premise promised better but the actual book fell flat.

Twist on a classic
This book is a twist on the classic tale told from Katrina’s point of view. It is not the original Sleepy Hollow. If that’s what your expectations are, you will be disappointed (as several readers seemed to be). I thought this was a good twist, kept me reading and wanting me to find out what happened in the end. I enjoyed the story and felt it was an entertaining read.

Along the Hudson
I grew up in Ossining, NY with the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow next door and the rival of our football teams. It was nice to take a gallop through the countryside again in a new telling of the old tale. I liked all the references to the area, Albany Post Road, Philipsburg Manor, & even White Plains and of course the Hudson River.I enjoyed the tale with the impassioned lovers Katrina and Ichabod. Brom being the jealous childhood friend that wanted the wealth of the Van Tassel's & Katrina for his own.Having Katrina with child with Ichabod's child was a good twist along with Katrina's new age witch friend Charlotte whose potions help Katrina finally see what really happened that fateful night.

intriguing and mystical with great romance and fulfilling love passages
Such an intimate look into a great tale we all think we know. But this fills in all the missing gaps and secrets of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

A good period romance with some great characters
This is an interesting take on one of America's classic stories, the first half being more or less a retelling from a woman's perspective and the second half somewhat of a sequel in which we find out exactly what happened to poor old Ichabod. Definitely more of a romance than a horror novel, it feels grounded in its time period and has a few nice twists. So, if you want a good period romance with some great characters or, if Washington Irving's frustratingly brief novella left you wanting to know more about Sleepy Hollow and its inhabitants, then this is definitely worth picking up.

page turner
I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit more "romancey" than I normally go for, but the little bit of magic really lifted it out of the pure romance genre and gave it a bit more oomph! An absolute pageturner!
