"Bookkeeper's Logic"
I love riddles, in view of that I was very happy to find a book with the tempting title:" Mind Teaser & Mind Puzzles"; on top of that the book had persuasive reviews that dispersed my doubts and resistance. Like a lion I started to work on it, at book's arrival, but my enthusiasm was quickly dashed. In a book that intends to be a "Mind Teaser..." I hoped and expected to find riddles that trigger and exercise one's brain, one should confront these puzzles armed with imagination, ingenuity and creative thinking. But all I got was an assignment and chore of a bookkeeper or auditor of creating data, comparing data and verifying data, which is wearisome. Unfortunately the book is full with them to the brim. Needless to say that, this kind of "work" isn't at all entertaining, unless one loves these kinds of manipulation.I'll demonstrate just one example out of many as the riddle "Meeting Day" (page 60-1): 3 friends start their exercise in a health club at different days (Mon., Wed., Fri.), 1st friend attends the club every 2 days, the 2nd every 3 days, the 3rd every 7 days. The question is: on which day of this month will the friends meet? Perhaps out of habitual the author solution (p. 110-1) is based on creating for all the three friends possible attendance dates tables, and alternative attendance dates tables from which one need to find a common date that all 3 friends are present. (( I have an alternative and easier approach to tackle this puzzle and enjoy it without long tables of comparing data, I'll just hint: one should keep in mind that each friend starts attending at different date;secondly, use a variation in the common denominator)). Most of the riddles couldn't be solved by a shortcut, one must take the tedious bookkeeper's approach Hence, the name for my review a "Bookkeeper's Logic".

Not for Me
These puzzle types are not fun for me because they're all mechanical, technical, grid-type, essentially math questions that always need pencils.Lots of things like: Who's the Cousin of Which Nephew? and Who's Lying and Who's Not? and Which Person Has Which Occupation? and Who's Next to Who in a Table Setting? and Who's Elderly and Who's Younger? all based on the same formulas for solutions. So they're all like math homework, rather than truly fun and interesting puzzles. However, fortunately I did find especially good ones in:Â The Brainiest Insaniest Ultimate Puzzle Book! . I loved the samples and bought it. I got it today and it has wonderful interesting pictures throughout, and original fun looking puzzles of many kinds too!

Favorite Logic Puzzle Book
I am a puzzle fanatic. I love puzzles that are difficult to solve without being overcomplicated. This book is full of them. Of the many books of brain teasers and puzzles I have encountered over the years, this one remains my favorite.
