why because Earth is Earth anymore its a nuclear wasted planet that humans escaped many years ago
Brief SummaryThe 100 is the story of four teens living on a spaceship high above earth. But 100 delinquents remaining in containment are about to be sent to earth. The first in decades, why because Earth is Earth anymore its a nuclear wasted planet that humans escaped many years ago. But supplies are running low on the ship, and air isn't going to last much longer. So they've decided the lucky 100 wont be put to death just yet they can be used to test Earth and see if it'll be safe for the rest of the colony to go back home. The book is told in four point of views: Clarke, Wells, Bellamy, and Glass. All convicted for various reasons except for Bellamy who just wants to be with his sister to protect her like he's always done. Most of the story is in italicized flashbacks.descriptionThe GoodNormally I despise a lot of flashbacks in books but in this one its needed. Without it you wouldn't know things about your main characters, why they are convicted, personal past information, etc. Character development with the four main ones was ok I mean more could've been done but with it being the first book I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it gets better."We don’t get a lot of story time on Walden. There aren’t many books, so I used to make up fairy tales for Octavia when she was little. Her favorite was about an enchanted trash can." -Bellamy from Kass Morgan’s The 100.descriptionThe BadSince it was split into four point of views I often got irritated and wanted to be back on Earth and not on the ship. I mean sure the ship points were nice cause then you get to keep up with what's going on the ship as well as Earth but I thought what was happening on Earth was a bit more interesting that and the character Glass was not my favorite...Though I enjoyed the flashbacks I wish that more was put into the current things that were happing. It was more rushed and not as detailed as the flashbacks were. Also 95 other delinquent teens had little to no character development so when mentioned you either forgot about them and/or didn't care due to them obviously not going to be important within the series.descriptionBrief ThoughtsThough The 100 had its up and downs for me I will definitely be picking up the second book once its out and I'm actually looking forward to the TV show that will be coming soon January 2014 on The CW.Updating: I don't care for the tv show and probably wont continue with the series just since im worried the authors going to try and mimic it to fit the show...

An incomplete and illogical story
This story certainly has tension. The main driver is a feeling that certain relationships aren't what they're supposed to be. Something bad happened and the beloved one doesn't understand, so distance has opened up between two people.Similarly, there's a sense of injustice. Young people are sentenced to death for otherwise trivial infractions, then shipped off to serve in a human experiment. In general, their society is stratified by where they were born, with privileged classes getting more and better resources.Unfortunately, the novel commits several sins that are difficult to overlook. The biggest one is not delivering a complete story. The book ends abruptly in the middle of an attack by some mysterious new enemy, without resolving any of the existing plot threads. This breaks the unspoken contract between writer and reader that a novel contains not only a beginning and middle, but also an end. There is a distinction between a series of novels and a single story released as episodes. You find the latter, for example, in manga or in old-school scifi magazines. But even there, you expect at least one key story arc to resolve in each installation of the series. Here, nothing important resolves. The other big sin (actually a host of sins) is failure of logic. The society is stratified for no really good reason other than to make us feel the unfairness of stratification. Dead people are shot off into space, implying long-term loss of biomass to the space station, yet it has sustained itself for centuries on recycled urine. There are "solar fields" where food is grown, implying vast amounts of area and considerable inefficiency. A hundred young people are sent to Earth to test for radiation, even though a simple unmanned probe would do as well or better. And if you must send people, a handful would suffice. Most of this can get a pass under suspension of disbelief. However, there is a scene (SPOILER ALERT) where the bridges between sections of the station are closed to isolate an air leak, of course abandoning the lower classes to suffocate in vacuum. One of the characters wants to go between sections to be with her boyfriend, so she crawls through the ever-present-in-scifi air ducts. Note the word "air" here. There should at least be a mention of wind rushing through this tunnel and a jammed bulkhead door. A little later in the book, there is a flashback where another character sabotages an airlock, apparently in the elite section. I suspect (without reading any of the sequels) that the plot relevance is to make the upper class lose air as well. If so, then the author completely misses the obvious physics here.
