I bought this for long-term, emergency water storage. The thing had a few scuff marks from transport, but nothing unexpected. It does not come with a spanner/opener, but I just used a pair of pliers in a wrench-type motion and had the barrel open with minimal damage to one of the two ports. I rinsed the thing with a gallon or two of water and soap, which probably wasn't needed. Then I filled it up. There is a rim with a hole at the top of the barrel. So, if you overfill, the spill-over can drain.I added some bleach to my water, since I use a well. Nothing happened, as you'd expect. So, maybe in 5 or 10 years time I can tell you how that affected the plastic. As of now, the thing is secure and holding water.For the price, I would have liked a spanner to more easily open the barrel. Maybe a document about long-term water storage would have been nice. But, it's a barrel for water storage - you order this and you get one. (Don't forget to order a pump to get the water out...).

Bought this because the morons who graded our new home can't use a level and we had water collecting on the property line at the sump pump discharge, which caused the sump pump to run way too often. Within 1.5 days of installation, the 55 gallon barrel was full! Weeks later, the sump pump hardly runs at all. I placed a small aquarium pump in the barrel. Barrel was easy to modify for my needs but it's very sturdy. Best value I could find online. Digging the hole sucked, but when is digging a huge hole ever fun? Had to add a discharge hose to the PVC since the pictures seen here for the days that it rains buckets. Now I don't use a hose to water our plants, trees, or garden. Helped solve two problems at once.

Pros: Light but solid-quality build. Durable enough to withstand shipping without packaging. Should serve its intended purpose well, for long-term emergency water storage.Cons: No packaging means I received it with light surface scratches all around. However, this didn't affect the functionality of the barrel. I'm confident it's functionality hasn't been negated in transport.Overall: A satisfied purchase. It should serve its intended customers and purpose well. Just remember to purchase some water treatment products such as Aquamira - Chlorine Dioxide Water Treatment Drops (Two Part Liquid), Chlorine Dioxide, Water Purifying Drops or Calcium Hypochlorite Chlorinating Shock Treatment.

Like the product. Price was a little steep. Found some barrels about half the price after purchase. However it will work for what I need it for.

These are a little pricey but I'm glad that I purchased them. They are sturdy, durable, and should last for a long time.

pricy for a plastic barrel, but very sturdy. got two of these with water conditioner. over 100 gallons of drinkable water good for 5 years. Be aware that one of these, filled up, weighs quite a bit so be careful where you place it.

This is a water barrel only. It arrived very late but in good condition. The barrel is just as it says beware of this vendor shipping was very delayed and took several phone calls to Amazon to resolve this issue.Barrels are good quality, nice color and will be used for water storage.

I was supposed to get this on the 11th, it arrived on the 17th. First thing I see before even getting it out of the box is that it is NOT new! It does NOT have 2 bungholes with caps like promised. It has 2 drilled side holes that were NOT advertised, and nothing included to stop water from simply running out of these holes- no spiggot or even a way to simply block them, just holes drilled in a water barrel, making it useless.Not only are there holes all over that are not supposed to be there.. they are drilled like a 3 year old did them. Shavings everywhere, uneven holes, giant weak spot ground off around the holes. Literally I think a child could have done better. Just wow.Then we look inside. There is a TON of plastic shavings inside, and a giant pack I'm assuming is silicate, it's too big to get it out through the bung hold without using a tool, my fingers cannot do it. There are deep gouges all over this barrel as well, as if it has been abused in the factory before being shipped. It is FILTHY as well. There is a strange sort of sickly sweet chemical smell from inside.Yeah, I'll be looking at returns for this product for sure!
