Lazarus, Come Forth!: How Jesus Confronts the Culture of Death and Invites Us Into the New Life of Peace

Fabulous!
I just finished preaching on this passage and Fr. John's book was invaluable in helping me prepare and give what I trust was a compelling message. Especially now, with a President whose leadership seems very much informed by and supportive of "the culture of death," this books is sorely needed.

Powerful Reflection
I truly appreciated the devotional character of this book. The content and writing are very strong, the perspective is fresh and challenging, yet it is a refreshing read, especially when most of my reading tends to be a little "heavy" or tedious; this book is strong in a gentle way, as it should be.

Come forth
Another beautiful, inspiring read from this wonderful human being. A perceptive study, comparing one of my favorite Gospel events with the need for social involvement and change. Good stuff.

A unique perspective on the climactic event in John's Gospel
If you can overlook Fr Dear's leftist agenda and stick to the Christian message, it's excellent at pointing out the parallels beteen the culture of death of first century Roman-occupied Palestine and our modern culture if death with its assault on the unborn and the vulnerable and how resurection is more than a future proposition.

Kindle edition problems have been fixed.
I was concerned about the formatting problems mentioned in a previous post, so I contacted the publisher. He assured me that the problems have been corrected and the Kindle edition is fine. I pass this on because I was reluctant to buy this book if it was indeed full of errors, but with this assurance I just purchased Lazarus, Come Forth, and look forward to enjoying it as much as I have Fr. John Dear's other works. I rated this as five stars, even though I haven't read it, based on the other books. I wanted potential readers to know that the errors have been corrected.

Great read
This book was very interesting. It will be the text for a workshop I'm taking this summer. I am excited about discussing this book in a group setting.

Excellent for one preaching on Lazarus text
If you are looking for some depth and perhaps a different take on the Lazarus pericope, look here. Dear's exegesis is stellar and you will also find great historical illustrations of direct, non-violent action that really worked.

Lazarus, Come Forth!
This book was philosophically strong. The conviction of the author on social justice issues of peace and non-violence were riveting to read. It would be difficult to live out that lifestyle to that extent, but much food for thought.
