This is a sturdy map with a nice overview of the region
This is a sturdy map with a nice overview of the region. However, if you will be trekking in the region you will be better served by the large variety easily available in Kathmandu with much more detail.

Pointless review
It's a map. It does what a map should do. Why am I being asked to review this? Pointless but it's a good map on shiny glossy waterproof paper with good colors, clear legends.

Tear resistant
One of the better maps of this region I have used.

Good overview map
This map provides decent coverage of the broader Khumbu (it includes the walk all the way from Jiri into the Everest region and the Khumbu valley). It's a little bit out of date and half of the names are not spelled the same as they are in most other resources (it is 13 years old now). Additionally, not all of the trails are exactly as marked (though they are probably close - also, this is not from first-hand experience, it is second-hand from a respected authority) and supposedly some of them are missing. The other problem I have with the map is that it is only 1:125000 so there isn't a great amount of detail (I would prefer a 1:50000 scale map for orienteering). However, to cover this broad an area isn't feasible at that scale. I wouldn't use it as my sole reference if I was trekking alone in the region, but I like having it to see the whole region including the western approach. I'll be taking the 1:50000 Lukla-Everest Base Camp map as my primary reference (I'm only going to that area) and will probably pick up a more recent map when I get to Kathmandu. This is probably one of the best overview maps of the region that is easily available in North America. It's water and tear-resistant (nice plastic-feel, not flimsy and subject to wearing out like a paper map) and should hold up well to coming along in your pack. A nice touch is the Kathmandu city map on the back, the Thamel district of the city is covered in decent resolution.

Great map! Covers the entire Rowaling Valley as well as Lukla to Everest
The coverage isn't clearly described in the product description, but I took a chance on the "covers western foothills" statement and was pleasantly surprised. In fact, the map covers what appears to be all of the major trekking routes from western approaches to the Khumbu Valley including starting at Chjarikot, Jiri and many others. On the back side of the map there is a regional view of Nepal, a detailed city view of Kathmandu and Thamel, .What I like:+Many peaks, glaciers, routes are well labeled on the map.+Waterproof, tear resistant paper - nice bonus surprise+Many side routes are also clearly marked on the map besides just the major routes+The entire area is covered on one side with a decent scale (approximately 1:125,000)The east side of the map covers Makalu Barun National Park, with the very southeast corner close to Chheskam, and the northeast corner of the map Mt. Everest / Island Peak. The west side of the map is about 10 miles east/15 miles south of Charikot and the northwest corner Totopani/Marming north to the Tibet border. The entire north side of the map is the Tibet border (no coverage into Tibet).Other notes:Contour Interval : 100 meters1 inch = 2 milesThe map is produced and distributed in cooperation with The Himalayan MapHouse.I am looking forward to taking this with me on our Rolwaling trek!
