Beefy camp knife!
I have a lot of knives, and tend to collect them, starting out with budget pieces where I just liked the looks, up to iconic blades for several hundred dollars that are proven designs. Basic use for any knives I own is just wood craft when camping, and some are never even used, just displayed, which is often the case with Hibben knives, that are often beautifully made, and give a sense of a "custom" knife without being hundreds or thousands of dollars, but are maybe not the best choice for camping use, when compared to something from Esee or even cheap options from Schrade. This knife, while a beauty, is one I'll take out in the wild. Yes, it's a bit bulky and perhaps a tad overweight. so, if you're looking to minimize pack weight, you'd likely find better options, but it's a sturdy piece that will do well with basic camp needs and fire or shelter building. It's a tough, stout blade, with beautiful Micarta scales that provide excellent grip and I like the feel, in the hand.Nothing special in the steel, but it's a "gets the job done" steel that sharpens up nice enough to shave the hair off your arm, and will have long life. Leather sheath is basic, and I'm not a big fan of the fold over retainer (common to Hibben sheaths) on the blade side, since the blade strokes across it when pulling it out or putting it back in, which can put wear on, and eventually damage the retainer. As another reviewer said so well, this knife deserves a better sheath, but, then again, at sixty bucks this is what it is, and that's understandable. It's serviceable enough, as a sheath, however, so I'll stick with it.It's nice to have a knife out in the field that looks this good and functions this well and I feel the price tag is more than worth it, for this beauty. As an addition to a basic field kit, this will serve nicely.Whether as a gift, or for personal use, I easily recommend it.

Absolutely Beautiful
Already owning a couple of Gill Hibben knifes my expectation were pretty high; Gil did not disappoint. The attention to detail, craftsmanship, form and function are always at the highest standard. This particular blade crafted from 420HC stainless has a subtle re-curve, a thick spine, delivered reasonably sharp. I, like many of the other reviewers, are not overly excited about the sheath provided; great knife to learn how to make a Kydex sheath I guess. The micarta handles have a great shape - no hot spots and provide a good grip. I'm not a huge fan of micarta scales in a wet environments. I would love if the Tundra had a Parakawood option like my Hibben ulu knife. Overall, it's a beautiful blade.

nice heavy Hibben knife, lower quality case
shape is good, grip is good, materials are good. You will have to drill your own lanyard hole. The case is of lower quality. It deserves a good leather case. Comes sharp. Construction, no issues upon arrival.

A very well designed knife.
This knife comes surgically sharp right out of the box.Batoning is a breeze with this Hibben beauty. Not a lightweight fixed blade, but its versatility makes it definitely worth the weight.Slicing tomatoes... cutting cord... field dressing... does it all.Would recommend to anyone looking for a large, tough as nails knife.

Very sharp and heavy.
I have been looking at this knife for a while and did decide to finally purchase it. With some of Gil Hibben knives being of poor quality I was cautious on this. I would say that this one is one of the higher quality ones put out by Gil Hibben. Heavy , sharp, great handle. I have read some negative reviews of the sheath but overall it is not bad. Satisfied with this purchase and great to add to my collection.

Good product for the money.
My knife was beautifully designed. Had a little glue on the handel and a flaw in the grind work. That being said, the knife is nice! Well balanced and well indexed. Feels perfect in the hand and looks sweet. Not perfect, but a great deal for the price. Will be my new daily for sure.

No lanyard hole
I really liked the knife, until I found It did not have a Lanyard Hole. The knife is perfect in every way, beautiful piece .It needed to be sharpened ,which I did .Now you can shave with it !There was some bit of glue on the handle scales ,no biggie .The sheath is a cheap china made leather type. Not sure if it's leather . I did like the imposed stamp on the sheath, so I will use the sheath until it needs to be replaced. The knife is worthy of a custom made sheath..I don't know why Gil Hibben didn't put a hole in the handle for a Lanyard, a knife this large needs one!I Haven't checked the spline to see if it is at 90 degrees to strike a ferro rod, if it doesn't I will fix it.I really love this knife ,I recommend buying this one. just hope Gil Hibben reads this review and fixes the problem. If they do I will buy it and give this one away !TY , VietVet
