Sturmey-Archer 3spd SLS30 R3T Thumb Shifter

I can confirm this shifter works great with a Nexus hub. Easy set up and zero problems. Gives people with a Nexus hub options beyond grip shifters. Great quality shifter with lots of adjustability.

I like the look of the old, classic trigger and had one on my 3 speed commuter. It worked fine, most of the time, but sometimes the cable end would pop out past the stop in third gear and I'd be stuck there unless I got off and fiddled with it. That's fine on a leisurely ride on the greenway, but not when I might be late for work. So I thought I'd give a modern version a try, and couldn't be happier.The clamp will work on most bars meant for upright riding, but I just installed drops on my commuter. No problem; the clamp fits quite nicely on the 22.2 stem. The shifting is crisp and decisive, the cable stop stays exactly where it should. The shifter itself is attractive; perhaps too modern looking for a truly classic older 3 speed, but it looks right at home on my converted road bike.

It would be a lot easier to install if the end that attaches to the little round shifter rod coming out of the hub was capable of screwing into the female end already there. I ended up having to tie the wire in a knot. Not an easy thing to do.

Purchased for a 50 year old Chicago Schwinn with 3 speed S/A hub. Literally, unhook the old and add the new. If you have worked on a transmission like this before, this is a 10 minute job. I had zero issues with order, product quality, and installation.

Took a while to get, but Werth the wait

Works well, a huge improvement on the older style 3-speed shifter. I use this on my commuter and find it will wear out a little more quickly than I'd like (2 died on me, each after about 2 years of 12-mile roundtrips), but is well worth it. Also, I've reused the "pods" from the dead shifters with a Shimano bar-end shifter (like a Paul Thumbie) for other projects. Works great. Bonus!
