We've had good results with Koldfront heat/cold unit for over 3 years now
Hesitated when we first purchased this Koldfront unit [12k BTU, heat/cold 220v unit] but it's worked continuously now for over 3 years, both summer and winter with great results. We bought it for our front great room, but we find it can keep most of the house cool in the summer and even to some degree heated in the winter [we're in Florida though]. Yes, it's a bit noisy perhaps, but a/c noise does not disturb us. But as far as it's purpose to keep us cool and warm, we've really been impressed how this unit does the job. I now look for Koldfront whenever shopping for air conditioning.

Powerful little air conditioner...
... that quickly cools a ~400 sq ft room. Not the quietest, or the fanciest, but reliably gets the job done well which is what you want.

Perfect AC/Heat solution
I have two of these, both mounted through the wall with the exterior bracket. In my application, 256 square feet in the desert they work great. Outside temperature swings from 20 degrees to 120 degrees are handled well. One of the super-nice features is the "Auto" mode where you set a temperature and the unit will automatically switch from Heat to Cool as needed. 12K BTUs may seem like overkill for such a small area but when it is 120 degrees outside they're perfect. I bought a Sensibo Sky to control them remotely through the internet. That makes it very convenient to cool down or warm up the cabins before I arrive. At this price point this is literally the only game in town for an AC/Heat unit.

Koldfront makes a good product.
I’ve installed two Koldfront units for family members and they have held up well for three years. So I decided to install the 12k BTU model (heat and cool) in our timber frame room. The room is 480 square feet with a sloped ceiling that is 16’ high at the ridge. I have three ceiling fans and a couple of floor fans that help with the circulation. It’s been in the 90s with wicked humidity here in middle Tennessee this summer but so far this unit cools the room quite nicely. The unit is not noisy but you can hear it “hum” as it cycles through the cooling process. I’ll update you on the heat later this winter.BTW, there was a ding on the cabinet, and the vent grill on one side had a couple of bent bars, but not bad enough to return it.

Do not waste your money!
Unit worked great the first year now heatingdoes not work. Customer service says it works great when it’s new but quickly deteriorates. We bought it as supplemental heat in our den but he is saying I need a space heater in addition to this unit. Makes no sense.I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS UNIT!!!!!PS-air conditioner works so why pay for heat if it does not work?????

Good unit, well designed, easy to install, long life
Good solid unit, well engineered, thoughtful features. I just received it and installed it today but have no reason to think it'll be other than thoroughly reliable. I mounted it in-wall versus window and didn't use the $94 in-wall adapter sleeve. Standard 2x4 studs in my structure, just left a couple inches of airspace on either side of external housing to ensure free airflow to all louvers. I furred out the opening such that a used only the right side window expander. Not done with external sealing but will use caulk and Great Stuff as needed.Update October 2018: still going strong; no problems.May 2022: still doing the job. Needs regular coil cleaning but that’s normal.Dec 2023: Got rid of the stock mesh “air filter” and ordered a 10x22” pleated paper filter that works infinitely better. Should have done it from the beginning. It’s supposed to be disposable I think but I just blow it out with compressed air whenever it seems to be loading up. Don’t have to clean the coils as often—go figure.

So far, so good
Even though I bought this unit several months ago, I finally got the motivation to install it today. I bought it for my 8 x 16 shop which had one window. Before ordering, I measured the width of the window to make sure it would fit. No problem. What I neglected was to measure the height of the window opening. Big problem. I had to completely remove the aluminum window and do some “fancy” carpentry to fill the hole. That worked. Not pretty but functional. My lack of motivation to install this unit was the weight. With no one to help, I was concerned about hurting myself. I devised a two step method where I lifted the unit half way up and set it on a stool. Then I lifted it the rest of the way into the sleeve that was already installed in he window. It worked like a champ. The unit is not all that heavy. If I had a normal wooden window, this unit would install as easily as any window unit. Maybe even easier.I am running the unit now and will update this with the results. It is hot here in SC.

a strong unit
this unit slid right in the window opening. we positioned a little bit, then what was left was caulking. all the features and functions work. i have not tested the heat cycle. it is augusr and it is very hot in florida. the cool cycle is doing very well. it is cooling 500 square feet. i like this new unit. just one little snafu, the remote control would not work. i bought a replacement battery and now the remote works. i did email the company who sent this a/c and i received a reply within 24 hours. i was surprised that the company offered to do a return exchange for me if i needed to. but, no i am keeping this.
