Q: What's the outside length? The models show them well above the knee. At 5'9" tired of buying shorts or swimsuit that come to my knees.

the outside measures 14" from top of the waistband to the bottom of the leg...definitely not to the knee .. hits pretty much like pictured

Q: These don't look like they have much pouch. Are they good for "gifted" men without smashing everything?

"Gifted Men" ... good for you!!! The answers lies in comfort you feel like experiencing. Your manly parts will feel snugly well kept and not binded. However, these trunks are a bit on the revealing-side... if you are comfortable with that then .... PROCCED PROUDLY.
