As with all food products, however, we advice customers to be careful of consuming any food or drink left unattended for extended periods of time as bacteria and fungi will, eventually, size the opportunity to thrive under the right conditions.

Are the lids also compostable?

YES, the Lids, Cups and Stirrers are fully compostable, certified by the BPI. Specifically, the lids are made from a plant-derived, heat-resistance oil referred to as PolyLactic Acid, or PLA, for short.

What is the difference of compostable and biodegradable?

BIODEGRADABLE is a vague adjective to describe something that can be decomposed by bacteria or other living organisms. Simply put, pretty much anything, from plastic to paper, is technically Biodegradable because it will, EVENTUALLY, be disintegrated by a living organism. Note that the term Biodegradable does not impose any specific time line or manner of disintegration.

COMPOSTABLE is a a special subset of Biodegradable that places strict requirements on how long and in what form must the material desintegrate. For example, the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) requires that at least 90% of the material has to be disintegrated in 6 months in order to classify as Compostable.

BIOCUPS (Lids, stirrers and Cups) are BPI Certified as Compostable.

Are these compostable cups safe for espresso machines?

YES, these Compostable Cups are designed with Coffee Makers and espresso machines in mind:

- In terms of temperature, they are designed to work with liquid temperatures of up to 203°F (95°C). Average temperature of freshly brewed hot coffee is ~ 170°F ( 77°C) 
 - In terms of height, the 12 oz measures 4.8 inches (11 cm), and the 16 oz cup measures 5.3 inches ( 13 cm) making both compatible with virtually all Coffee Makers and Expresso Machines.
