Take a time travel tour with a guide who really knows how to tell a story!
Imagine reading a book that takes you from the sparks that started the Revolution to the end at Yorktown. Best of all, it’s not boring! I felt like I was on a time travel tour with a great guide who knows how to tell a story. When he talked about taxes on stamps and tea, he compared them to sales tax on video games and burgers. Then he said Sam Adams was pretty righteously mad about them. Would you believe I found those two examples on the same page?!The book also breaks down big concepts like patriots and loyalists. It did a show and tell about American and British soldiers in a way kids, especially boys would love. At the end of each chapter, there was a quick bio. My favorite part – the bonus fact. Did you know John Hancock’s dad was a minister, or that his parents died when he was seven? John was adopted and raised by his aunt and uncle.

Guts and Glory - A GREAT SERIES FOR KIDS
We get most of our books from the library, but certain titles are keepers and the GUTS and GLORY series falls into that category. We have purchased each book in the set and they are all excellent. I certainly encourage you to consider this for any late elementary/middle school student.

Makes history relatable
Great book! We are reading a few Am Rev books for our Rev studies this year, and this by far is the most entertaining! They all have the same basic info...names and dates...but the way this is written is very engaging. Especially for children/tweens. The author makes many comparisons to popular movies and video games, relating even more to the "modern child!" LOL He makes the men and women from history more relatable to kids by saying things such as "Washington was like 'Peace out, Cornwallis!'" That simple phrase really made the important points of the Battles of Trenton and Princeton really "stick" in my son's mind! I can't wait to get the other books in this series!

The authors do a nice job of using pop culture references to help young ...
My 10 year old son is not a fan of history books or non-fiction books in general. But he enjoys the Guts & Glory series. The authors do a nice job of using pop culture references to help young readers relate to the content.

VERY engaging
I ordered all 4 for my 9 year old, and ended up reading them all too because they're so well written and fun to read! You can feel the author's passion for history as you read them. I would HIGHLY recommend these for ANYone, even adults, but they're definitely perfect for students. They include great drawings, diagrams, side boxes of useful facts, etc.

The kids love it!
I purchased this book to help my kids understand the American Revolution better. They love it! We are homeschooling and I felt our curriculum didn’t cover it as well as I’d like. These are an easy & fun read, and they connected instantly to the writing. We will be looking at the other titles in the Guts & Glory series for sure.
