Thomastik-Infeld GB114 Jazz Guitar Strings: George Benson 6 String Set - Pure Nickel Flat Wounds E, B, G, D, A, E Set

I've been using these strings for about 6 years. They are head and shoulders above other brands in quality as are all the Thomastik strings I've tried. Among the Thomastiks I've tried, these are the most durable, they stay in tune the best, and give a full bodied tone that is unmatched by any other set.That said, I do not recommend these for beginners. They are rather high tension and bends can be tough if you aren't used to bending a B string that is .018I play these on an old Gibson with original T-top pickups. I also use extremely thick picks [3mm]. I play mostly Funk and jazz/blues w/e you wanna call it.Folks need to buy more of these since the price is getting out of hand. I'm probably the only one besides GB playing these things.

I own a 1953 Epiphone archtop and have always wanted flat wounds on it. The problems are that flat wounds are generally made for electric guitars and my guitar has an odd tailpiece which requires long strings. There are a few brands of electric flat wounds that are pure nickel which is what monel acoustic strings are. The Benson strings are pure nickel and they are long enough for my guitar. They sound great and there’s no finger noise. I hope they last.

These srings are by far produce a tone I've never heard from any other maker. I enjoy the 14 gauge (High E) as much as if not more than the 12 gauge for overall playing; but each has his/her preference. Use a 4mm thick V-Pick and after fooling with his combanation find it a great match. Bending the strings isn't hard it just takes getting use to and the speed with a low action setup is amazing I.E., Chromatic playing ... shallow desire lead to shallow results! Expensive? Yes, but in this case I get what I've paid for. GHS flat wounds are next pick and cheaper. Bottom line, regardless of strings, if you want to play you'll play. There is a difference in how well the execution of playing is however with experimenting with strings.Play, pray on!BJETT

Yes, I know these are expensive, but I think it is worth it. I have used various strings over the years and I think these have the most tone and they do seem to last a long time. I put these on my jazz boxes; ES175, DAngelico vestex and use theses guitars for bebop, straight ahead stuff and they bring out the tone, especially behind a female singer. I haven't tried them for more contemporary jazz on an ES335 or a solid body, I just got the impression they would not sound as good on these guitars since I need to have the ability to do more string pulls on these guitars for the blues and rock/jazz that I would play on these guitars.

Wow! Great strings and I don’t write reviews for strings. Four stars is that low E string yarn near ball end too thick. Does not fit my tail piece and had to cut off yarn to fit.Once strung up, just wow! I have to try the js112 swing to see if it is worth the $15 price difference. But until then…wow!

These sound fantastic!!!So maybe you won't put these on your $100 guitar... or maybe you should??? If you spent $4K on an ES-175 then clearly you've got the cash to string it up with these. Did I mention they sound fantastic??? But (just maybe) if you spent $100 on a garage sale jazz box then you've got $3900 left to buy a lifetime supply of these strings, which will surely make your bargain axe sound its best.They don't just sound great, they also feel great. To be clear, they won't make you sound great if you don't already. But if you do, they surely won't hold you back. You can buy those $6 strings and always wonder if you should have tried these... or you can just pony up the cash to find out. If you're reading this, you know you want to. Do it.

Those strings sound amazing on my ES-125 TDC !

I just put these strings onto my Mark Campellone Archtop and what a world of a difference it makes versus the standard round wound D'Addario's I was using (and recommended by the luthier). There is no fret noise when changing positions and they give the guitar that nice, fat, warm jazz tone that I'd been looking for. Yeah, they're pricey, but so was my guitar and I'd definitely recommend. These will be my go to from now on.
