Used on HIGH VOLUME Range Hood Exhaust - replacing large, noisy, aluminum vent
We are pretty happy.I worried our range hood is so powerful on "HIGH" setting that it might blow the vents right off but it does not.It works great and is MUCH MUCH quieter on windy days than the aluminum vent it replaced. The problem with the aluminum one was that, when the range hood fan is off - it should be quite but on windy days the aluminum one would open and close with large winds, clanging endlessly. This one is quiet even on windy days - yay!It is just plastic so we will see how long it lasts but it was only $10 bucks.

Looks nice easy to work with but...
Looks nice, easy to work with to remove flexible flaps and reinstall, thick edges, however wish there was a 1" adapter plate that could be used.In my case i had to salvage parts from my old metal assembly to have a 1" spacer otherwise my fan and this louver could not work together. Good think i had the tools to hack up and modify and reuse old parts as the spacer. I guess it depends on your wall thickness and fan.

No frills, but exactly what's advertised.
Just the plastic piece in a box; no padding, no bag, no manual, no screws, etc. That was fine for me; I just needed this on the outside of my wall for the exhaust fan I'd installed in my workshop. The 8" is the width of the vent portion; there's 1.5" or so of frame around it, so plan your hole accordingly.

Another broken one
See the photo. This item was quite broken. But knowing that if I ask for a replacement, chances are I'll get another broken one, I spent about and hour and fixed the thing. All you need is a drill, tiny drill bit, a small nail cut to size and some glue - to replace the broken knobs. Maybe a little experience with fixing things helps, too. I'll take down this review as soon as I receive three flaps in good condition, or a full refund for a defective product. Oh, and when I installed it I also noticed a crack in one of the corners. The plastic is quite thin. Why can't anyone build an 8" vent that is good quality. I think most people would be happy to pay more for something that is good quality.

2nd one was fine. First was broken
Broken pieces on arrival . Not caused by shipping. Had to return and got another shipped. 2nd one was fine. Seems like their QC is hit or miss and they have a hugh defect rate

8" plastic vent hose fitting
Used this on outside of my house. This vent has 8" dia hose fitting to attach your hose. You will therefore need an 8" hose clamp. The flaps are self closing. but there is NO grill behind the flaps (my old one did) . To attach the hose you can pop off the flaps.....by carefully bending a little in the middle of the flap. Make sure the plastic is warm before you do that. let the sun warm it up or some hot water. With the flaps out you can now work the hose on the flange a little easier than from the outside. Now replace the flaps. Carefully! Incidentally. You cant find this item stocked by H Depot or Lowes, unless your store is different to mine!!!
