Top Favorite CD of the 21st Century
This is my favorite Glass work. I love Einstein on the Beach, Metamorphosis, but, this takes the cake for me. I have listened to this CD probably 300 times (not the same CD, I wear out my favorites). The 1st review of this work is actually quite excellent. Although I never got into the Low Symphony much, I do love Phillip Glass' work. He is my favorite 21st Century composer. But I guess you might have to be a little quirky if Frank Zappa is your favorite 20th Century Composer-who I did extensive research in while I was in Graduate School at a Conservatory of Music (12 tone serialistic music). It was there that I was turned onto Phillip Glass. And hey-who doesn't love the music to The Truman Show??? Enjoy!!!

Looking for accompanied vocals by Bowie
26 Mixes for CashThere is a "remixed" song by Aphex Twin ( Link of album above ) who put David Bowie's vocals WITH the strings. One thing I don't care for with the Aphex mix is that they put in a lot of ghostly sounds in the background of the whole song. I would love to have the exact song without the vocals for a wedding. The ghost talk would creep a lot of the guests. Is there such a song that it just straight Bowie vocals with the strings? No ghostly sounds?

Finally, an authentic American voice
Philip Glass is what American culture has been waiting a long time for. Finally, something expressed in musical terms other than angst, frustration, anger, heartbreak, silliness, comfort, fun, etc. etc. Philip Glass plays for us the sound of the spirit, both fearsomely powerful and inspiringly uplifting. If you've had it with the frivolity of mediocre composers like Aaron Copland and you want to hear something deeply moving and sincere, listen to Philip Glass. This Heroes symphony is a good place to start. If you're in the mood for more, watch the film Koyanqaatsi, which was scored entirely by Philip Glass.
