Big fun in a yellow box
It's hard to say whether putting everything together or driving it around is more fun. I actually really enjoyed reading through the instructions, finding the parts for each step, and building the main components for this truck. The instructions are very clear, and broken apart into smaller, manageable steps. From start to finish, It took me about 20 hours in total, broken apart across a few days, to get the truck assembled, painted, and running. About 6 of those hours were just working on the body and outer details, though. This kit contains no electronics, so you'll need to provide the following:* Radio system (transmitter and receiver)* Steering Servo* Electronic Speed Control (ESC)* Battery and charger (plus batteries for the transmitter)You'll also need a Phillips-head screwdriver, paint for the body, and I'd recommend some CA glue for the tires.I outfitted my Lunch Box with a Hobbywing WP-1060 Brushed ESC, a 27T Axial motor, a Traxxas 2076 servo, and the cheapest FlySky radio system I could find that didn't look ridiculous. It's worth noting that if you're going to run with a LiPo battery, you will need to modify the battery compartment to make it fit. I took a dremel to a small plastic area, and now I can fit a soft-case battery in there no problem. It will not fit a hard-cased Duratrax battery without *really* forcing it in there, which just seems like a bad idea. With this setup, I can blip the throttle to make it wheelie, or I can ease into the throttle to get it bounding across the field. I've seem videos of people putting super-fast brushless motors in these things, which seems kind of... silly. Either way, I absolutely recommend gluing the tires into place, because even at regular speeds, a few sharp turns and they start to roll off the rims. All around, a really enjoyable build, and lots of fun to drive. It's not graceful by any means, but by keeping the battery down low, and having a wide stance, it really doesn't tip over as often as you may think.

It's a lunchbox. What's not to love.
Built this kit up for one of my nephews for Christmas. Perfect base for a fun custom build. And a great car for newcomers to the hobby as well as full blown rc addicts. I'll probably end up with one on my shelf eventually.

Better than I rembered!
I had the Tamiya Lunch Box when I was a young teen. Many hours of enjoyment then and even better now. Very rewarding build, just remember you'll need the running gear. Great model rc for the young and not so young hobby enthusiast.

Good first build for a 12 year old
Good first build for a 12 year old. He needed help at the beginning but was able to finish it up all by himself. Fun truck, fast. There are a lot better trucks out there if you want to race, but this is a good one to start with and learn on. Fairly simple with a solid rear axle but it has a real differential.Bought from seller TOY SHOP JAPAN HOBBYONE and it didn't come with a speed control.

Worth every $
Absolutely in love! Wanted this as a child and 30 years later, here's Vanessa, in all here glory!๐ ๐It's important to note that this arrived much earlier then expected and in the most impeccable condition ๐Was easy to follow the instructions as well ๐However, I'm giving 4 stars because the product description says it comes with the esc, and it did not. If this is remedied, I will definitely change my rating to 5 stars, as esc's can be an expensive added cost.Overall, I'm very happy ๐

Classic RC Fun
This kit from Tamiya is plastic, but doesn't break. I've rolled it, jumped it, crashed it, ran head on into solid objects, and more. I had to replace the servo but that was a cheapy that doesn't even come with this kit. Get a radio/receiver combo, some NiMH batteries, good servo with a good Servo Saver - Build it all and have FUN! Oh yeah, and just when you thought the hype was over, all the fun was had, do yourself a favor and put the Sport Tuned motor in it and wake her up again! She'll stand up on the wheelie bar with her fronts up in the air and take off down the dirt track! WANT EVEN MORE? Swap it up to LiPO with a brushless system and then think about what you have done... With that set up you'll want metal trailing arms for the fronts and better suspension. Why am I telling you all this? This RC is capable, fun, and has plenty of spare parts for sale on the net. Buy this and build it with you kid, buy it and build it for yourself. You can't go wrong with the Lunchy here. Wonderful product from one of the best RC companies around. Thank you, good night.

A Fun Satisfying Kit to Build
The media could not be loaded. This is a real fun kit to build. However, this kit is not a completed ready to play car straight out of the box so you will need to assemble it.You will need to buy the electronics separately. I heard that you may get a electronic speed control (ESC) in the kit but it depends where you get it from. When I bought my kit from Amazon, the source was directly from Japan and mine didn't come with one so be sure to read the packaging carefully before you buy your electronics.Overall, I was very satisfied with my purchase and I would recommend this kit to anyone who wants to own a this classic remote control van from Tamiya.

Re live your younger years
Ok, I was excited to see this kit for sale at such a good price. I remember the crazy antics of my original Lunch Box, and can't wait to get this RC running. Upon inspection of the re release of this model I was happy to see Tamiya is still producing high quality RC kits. This kit took about 2 hours to build, and everything fit well. This would make an excellent first RC for a young enthusiast to build with a parent.
