Good product
Good material soaks well and keeps me cool in the heat. Would recommend for the field if working outside for a long time.

Don't pass it up but not perfect
I purchased this and the Chill-it hard hat neck shades. The miracool puts the absorbent material on the top of the head with a fabric shade. When it is soaked in water, it felt great but it lifted the hat too high on my head. My suspension system won;t allow me to get it above teh suspension system and still have the fabric cover the neck. But, it might be worth a try on another type of hat without a suspension system - like one used by a hiker. The chill it model just hangs from the back of the suspension system. So, it does not affect fit. This product has a fabric flap that shades the neck. It can bunch up when wet. The chill-it has just enough stiffness to stay in place and shade the entire neck. This can also be used as a shade only and does not have to be soaked. The chill-it is too stiff to be used dry. To make this work, I have to be careful and not soak it too much so the crystals don;t swell to their full size. Otherwise, it is a good product. What I use working on roads everyday now is the chill-it shade with the miracool bandanas around the neck.. When the chill-its are being cleaned, this shade goes in the hat and I don;t regret owning it. I also use this under a straw hat when working in the yard. If I never had to wear it under a hard hat I would have given it 5 stars.

Looks nothing like the picture.
just a small piece of very thin fabric. Do not buy you will be better off getting a cloth for your kitchen and using it

These are great, I'm bald and not only does this shade ...
These are great, I'm bald and not only does this shade my neck but if I put it in my hard hat dry, it wicks a lot of sweat up. It also provides some relief from the straps in the suspension. Combined with something like a Weldas sweat band it almost makes wearing a hard hat bearable, even in West Texas. The shade could be a little bigger, but that would block more of the breeze off of your neck, so I guess it's a good compromise. I now have 3 of these cooling pads and recommend at least 2, 1 to wear while the other is in the wash.

Good cooling capacity, neck shade a little short.
The pad holds a cool temperature for about 3 days (when new), i supposed the cooling capacity will diminish later on. It does help keeping your head cool and you sweat less. I recommend to complement with a sweat band for the hard hat.The neck shade is a little short (when you bend over, the bak of your neck gets uncovered). It's not wide enough to cover your ears too, but it's all right for my needs.

Not so great for MC helmet
I tried this in a new, 3/4 G-max, nicely vented MC helmet for summer use. Temp was about 82 degrees. I had soaked this, then set in the frigde for a day. I inserted this between the top of the liner and the helmet. Other than the space taken up (about .5") and discomfort on the head, I got very little cooling effect from the pad and long story short, it made its way into the garbage can. Quite possibly would work much better inside a hard hat, as pictured.I will instead either use the LDclothing helmet liner, or soak some Shamwow in water, freeze that in a zip bag and stick that inside the helmets.

not just for hard hats
it works.I am a heavy sweater and work in front of people who would not want to have me dripping in and around their food. The pad has reduced my sweating by more than half.I use two in a 5hr shift storing them in the fridge.they just fit under a baseball cap even tho their made for hard-hats.great for kitchen work but not marketed for this purpose not sure why.If manufacturer would make one thinner with a larger circumference and a lip that slides under the fold on the edge of a baseball-cap to secure it this would be perfect for food service workers.
