Insanely good for the price
I am honestly blown away at how good this lens is for the price.- The build quality is top notch, it's nice and heavy and the focus ring is tight and solid- The image quality is really great (it has VERY SLIGHTLY more chromatic abberation than more expensive lenses, which is easily correctable in post if you even notice it)- It is very sharp- The bokeh is very nice and pleasing, not smudgy or streaky or weird shaped- It's autofocus! It is fast and accurate. It's a teeny bit louder than my Sony/Sigma lenses, but it's definitely not going to be noticed by anyoneI have the Samyang/Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 for Sony E, and this lens is just as good for $200 less. Yes it's f/1.8 and not 1.4, but I rarely shoot at 1.4 anyways because the focus becomes so narrow. This is the perfect budget portrait lens.I used this for a portrait session and although I can't publicly share those pics, they turned out fantastic. I'm sharing some random snapshots just to give you an idea of the capabilities of this lens, but they are obviously nothing special.

Excellent Value! Unbelievable Bokeh!
The media could not be loaded. I am evaluating this VILTROX 85mm f/1.8 lens after 3 months of use, using a Sony A7R III full-frame camera body, and in comparison with my pro-level Sony G Master lenses, which include:• 24mm f/1.4 GM• 135mm f/1.8 GM• 24-70mm f/2.8 GM• 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 GM.My intent for this lens was for product photography, for closer portraiture than my 135mm f/1.8 GM can manage, and for videos where I wanted to get in a little closer than my 24-70mm lens would permit. Since I acquired it, I have used it for so much more. These are my findings:PROS:• Picture Quality: Outstanding, crystal-clear shots• Bokeh: Beautiful, round, buttery smooth• Price. Packs a big punch for such a low-priced lens• Body: All metal, perfect weight to feel solid but not too heavy. (In comparison, the Sony 85mm f/1.8 lens feels lighter and more plastic-y)• High Quality Mechanics: Incredibly smooth manual focus ring• Quick Auto-focusNEUTRAL:• Pin-cushioning: Present, but distortion eliminated in Lightroom (used distortion correction value = -6.5), so not a negative to me.• Chromatic Aberration: Generally low (studio light) or absent (daylight), about equivalent to GM 24mm f/1.4 lens• Vignetting: Generally not apparent, minute evidence in some wide-aperture test shots using on pure white background, when identical shot compared across aperture stops.CONS:• Auto-focus: Hunts more than it does with my 24mm f/1.4 GM lens• No weather sealingOverall an outstanding lens! Thanks Viltrox!

Beautiful and well-built!
This lens is PHENOMENAL. I've never used a Viltrox lens before so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but I was quite impressed with the complete package. This is a heavy, metal-enclosed lens with a massive front element and solid grip for focus. It feels a little silly using such a big lens on a smaller Sony camera like the a5100 or a6400 - but works well on both and fits nicely on my a7s ii.85mm is the perfect angle for cinematic shots, flattering portraits, and with the f/1.8 max aperture, you get some nice, smooth bokeh roll-off too! And it's super sharp where you need it.My only issues with the lens come up with its minimum focusing distance being a little further away than I'd like. There's obviously no stabilization, which on those smaller cameras can be a problem.

Sharp picture and great value
It's honestly great for It's price. It feels and performs like a professional lens. The build quality was really really good. It's had a polished connector thankfully

Great lens for the price.
Good value lens and one of my sharpest (zeiss comparison). I only notice that the focus stutters sometimes. It will become frustrating if a firmware doesnt fix this. I am looking for a workaround. I am very happy withthe look and very sharp.Heavy, but feels good and solid on my a7r3.

Great lens really sharp
Lens is sharp and clear. Not a lot of chromatic aberration very easily fixed in Lightroom. I’ve taken a ton of portrait shots of family with this lens. The autofocus is fast and low light performance is great. The construction is metal and feels premium. The focus ring is smooth and silent. It’s a great entry level 85mm. I highly recommend this lens.

Best $400 spent on Sony lens
The media could not be loaded. This lens is awesome. if you have any of the sony e-mount cameras, you simply must try this lens. its build very sturdy which adds weight to your rig (i like that). the auto focus in both video and photo modes are very fast crisp and responsive with sony's cameras (i used A7iii and the a6400. this lens should be used on a tripod for video as there is no image stabilization, but for $400, im not upset at all. i have plenty of tripods. i'll be using this lens for wedding videography as it is great in low light and produces sharp images.

For the money it’s ok.
Poor focus on low lighting. Tried photographing Christmas lights in down town San Antonio. Disappointed with the results. However it work good in my studio.
