The "kick in the pants" I needed
The book is organized in a progressive order. This allows you to take things in steps. I appreciated how the author basically orders me to run out and get water...then chews me out for procrastination when I did not run out and get water. This set me in the "get it done" mind set vs waiting for the most economical time to do things. Just the "kick in the pants" I needed. The book also got me to think about all the people I would be responsible for in a disaster & how I would deal with the friend who is 300 lbs and can only walk ~100ft. Maybe I cannot do anything about it but at least I have been thinking about it...Two other books I would add to your reading 1. Prepper's Long-Term Survival Guide - This book got me to set up rail barrels...2. How To Drag a Body...Which taught me what it is actually like to live through various hazards. I will never stay in a cheap hotel again. These 3 books will round out your ability to be prepared...Also, one last thing...getting oneself properly prepped is not a weekend thing...I have been getting all my affairs in order over the past few months & will continue. I am way better prepared now than I was last year...thanks a lot!

The Green Beret Survival Guide
I am only about halfway through the book and have learned several things that, while I have lived in the country all my life and know about food preservation and storage, some basic first-aid, surviving in different weather conditions (in my area), etc., have really increased my awareness of what I need to have in a grab-and-go bag . . . Thanks, Bob, for this book.

It's about acting rather than reacting.
I live in an earthquake and fire prone area and decided that it is (finally) time for me to be ready in case of an emergency. And, since I'm a fan of Bob's fiction books, it made my choice of which survival guide quite easy.As the name implies, this guide approaches survival with a special forces mentality. Meaning... it is more about planning or war gaming for different survival-type situations. Being prepared in advance means that you can decisively act in a situation rather than blindly reacting to the situation. It is organized in a very easy to follow fashion and covers planning from mild to severe emergencies. And, it walks you through how to conduct an Area Study in order to guide your survival planning so you and your family/friends (A-team) have the best chance of enduring. Moreover... it has some really convenient links to Amazon for ordering survival gear... from windproof matches to a prepackaged grab-n-go bag for mild emergencies.Overall... I'm very happy with this purchase, feel like I am much better prepared to weather the unexpected, and highly recommend that you purchase it if you have read this far!

A must read if you are a survivalist.
I love reading other peoples opinions on this subject and enjoyed the narrative, experience and recommendations. I feel I’m much more prepared than I was before I read this book. Not that I’m a doomsday believer, but there’s a lot of good information in here in just basic wisdom and survival techniques. Don’t be naïve and say nothings going to happen to me, just be prepared for your family and yourself.

Not a good book.
Definitely don’t recommend. Waste of money, these other reviews are worthless. Basic household safety information at best, lack of pictures, instruction and/or diagrams. These other reviews were misleading. As an Army Sapper this information is common knowledge one could find at their local firehall. Definitely not something I or a green beer would take into the wilderness.
