Absolutely works and easy to set up!
Oh hell yes! This thing was super easy to set-up, connect and make work. Apparently these things can detect through the open/close switch if the door is opened or closed but the magnet connection adds more versatility. I already had the SmartThings app so I just added the device and hooked it up to my front gates: too easy and now I can open/close my gates as a drive down the street, no more playing games hoping the receiver and remote work. Very happy, just ordered 2 more for my other gates

Great simple unit. Using off label application on a gate opener. Don’t tell manufacturer!
I tried myQ by chamberlain and Aladdin by genie and both are not good. This cheap device is my favorite and I just bought 3 more for each of my garage doors to add to the gate I’m currently using the 1st unit on. Very easy to install and uses a hard wire connection to fire the gate or garage door. It also uses a simple magnetic wired switch to tell if it’s open or closed. I’m really in love with this unit so far.Yes, I’m using it for an off-label purpose, gate WiFi opener. I’ve finally found an easy solution for those of us with an older gate to make it WiFi. First you have to have 120v outlets to plug this unit inside of your gate controller box. Second, you need WiFi signal and lastly you need the magnetic connection to change state as you open/close gate. I was able to connect the status switch to the gate arm linkage so at it opens it breaks the magnetic connection and tells the unit the gate is open. I expected the WiFi to have issues but its range is great. My gate is maybe 100’ away from the house walls etc and it never fails. Opening the app is fast and the gate is ready to trigger within 1-5 seconds of opening the app.My experience with myQ wasn’t good for a gate opener and it uses wireless signals to trigger the device so if you have an older chamberlain gate remote unit, it’s almost impossible to pair them. Once paired, you have to figure out how to have the status device change states as your gate moves. I’ve seen others who have rigged up devices but this device was easy and the hard wired mag connection has no batteries to change like myQ and Aladdin.MyQ also lost pairing to my opener and I had to relearn my opener learning process. Again, the other big company devices use battery operated status devices which you have to keep up on. So I just bought 3 more units to control my other garage doors. The smart home app works well and seems free from excess junk so it loads fast.

Awesome!
This works almost too good. I couldn't be happier. Setup was simple. The app is straight forward. Wish there was a way to change the polarity of the contact so I could install it up by my opener but I ran the wire over to my door in 5 minutes and was done. I highly recommend. It does take some level of skills to install but I'm pretty sure I could walk my mom through it.The app almost immediately opens my door, no lag, instant. I was very surprised.Love this! And the price too!!! Don't hesitate. Just do it.

Works great but not long
This is my 4th unit. The original two lasted about two years. I replaced both of them about a year apart. But they work great while they last.

Shipped in unacceptable condition
I bought this item several years ago. When I opened the box, the first thing I noticed was that the two-sided tape had been stuck to a wall or something and removed. The rest of the packing was disheveled. I concluded that this item was used, but sold as new. Considering the security nature of the product, I just gave up and did not install the item.I am writing this review now because I have read dozens of useful reviews for many different products that have helped me make purchase decisions. This is my turn to give back. Good luck finding what you need.

Works exactly as described, very easy setup
This was very easy to install and configure! I already have the Smart Life app for several other smart home devices, so that part was a breeze. I had already double checked the compatibility of this device with my existing garage door opener, but it also comes with a helpful chart of compatible and incompatible openers, so you can check it again before trying to install. For my opener, I had to strip the black and red wires just a little to get them to insert into the remote control junctions on the opener, but if you have a wire stripper or a pair of needle nose pliers, this should not be a problem. I used the sticky pads that were provided to affix the remote unit to the top of my opener, and the provided clips to secure the sensors wire over to my door. The sticky pads seem to stick very well, but screws are also provided if you prefer something more secure for all of the parts.Fair warning, the integration with Alexa is more limited than other smart things I’ve hooked up there. You CANNOT open/close the door with any switch options inside the Alexa app, you can only use voice commands there. For the voice commands in Alexa, you are required to set a 4-digit passcode, and you have to repeat back this code when prompted any time you want to open the door or ask if it is open; no code is required to close the door.Any other automation (schedule, location arrive/leave controls, etc.) has to be done in the Smart Life app. When you set these up, Alexa does register them as scenes, but you can’t change anything about them in Alexa, you have to go back to Smart Life to do that. The schedule functions in Smart Life are very nice. I set up a location based control for the first time to open the door when I arrive and close it when I leave, but you can’t actually tell the door to “open” or “close”. All it does is click the switch, so if you’re arriving and the door is already open, it will close it, since it’s just pressing the switch like you would on the wall switch. That’s not a problem for me, and it works as intended, but I think it’s an important consideration to keep in mind when using this kind of add-on unit, as opposed to more expensive options.Overall, this took me about 30 minutes total to set up, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for an easy and inexpensive way to integrate your garage door opener into your smart home.
