a modern take on a great classic
Aside from the awesome fact that Dickies are tough work pants that won't wear out, I've always had the nagging problems with the sizing & fit. My first pair of 36x30 874's were too tight because I forgot to size up accordingly. I went to 38x30 and they fit better, but there's still constriction at the crotch & seat if you don't adjust your pants right before sitting down. I ceased to wear the loose-fit double-knee pants because my boss said they weren't dressy enough. So thus began the search for pants that 1) wouldn't wear out, 2) looked dressy, 3) fit right, and 4) didn't cost too much. Two days ago, I accidentally splashed bleach all over my 874's while cleaning the parking lot and didn't notice until the stains set in an hour later. Talks with my mom deduced that my 874's weren't worth dyeing black again at the price and amount of labor needed. I had these Slim-Taper Stretch-twill pants in the back of my mind, but now that I'm over the age of 25, I'm always skeptical of new trends, especially that CASTRATING skinny trend going on right now. I decided to take a shot at the Slim-tapers since my 874's have slightly big leg openings, and hoped that the Slim-tapers weren't TOO skinny. Thanks to Amazon prime, the package was ordered late Monday afternoon and came in early Wednesday afternoon just in time before evening church services.I tried these on, and MAN. What an IMPROVEMENT over the 874's! First off, I'm neither slim nor skinny - at 5'7" and 190lbs, I'm definitely shorter and huskier than your average metro-trendy-looking dude on the market. In 38x30, which just so happens to be one of the last sizes you can order in, these pants are COMFORTABLE. These don't grab your crotch or seat unlike those thieving 874's! The fit on these is perfect as well - the waist sits well, and the legs taper down just enough so you look slim enough to be proper, but not baggy enough to hide a shotgun down your pant legs? And did I mention that the fabric feels SMOOTHER than your average 874? It's easier to break-in, I guess. This is a plus for those of us that must walk a lot for our work.I'm not exactly sure why people don't like the cellphone pocket. I don't use it for my cellphone myself, but most Dickies pockets are SMALL compared to other pockets on other pants that I have. It's a great pen pocket when your main right-handed front pocket is stuffed with your wallet and your left pocket with your keys!Price is a little higher than 874's and the loose-fit double-knee (price + CA sales PENALTY came out to about $25). But hey, if the price of Dickies pants is always fixed and they fit better, what hurt can $2-3 extra dollars do over the course of several years?Bottom line: I'm DEFINITELY a fan. If you're tired of your 874's penalizing your pelvis, spend $2-3 extra on these Slim-tapers and get comfort and style for the best price!

Bout time Dickies!
After reading reviews I figure I should size up since I read they shrink after being washed. Well, they've been washed and they're still a little loose in the waste. I did notice the legs shortened up a tad but not bad. I typically wear a 32 in everything so my next purchase in these will be 32. As for fit, they're not skinny and not a relaxed wide leg straight fit. They're more in the middle with the tapered fit providing ample upper leg & crotch room, with a slimmer lower leg and cuff opening. They come rigid as all Dickies do but after a wash and wearing them they soften up nice. However, these don't flex like other stretchy twill pants do. There's no Elastane blend. This is the reason for 4 stars. Pockets could be a little deeper as well.UPDATE 12/2/16: I ended up buying another pair of grey in 32 waist and 34 length and they fit well in the waist. True to size however the length is a little too long but with a cuff it's all good. I imagine after many washes the length may shorten up a tad though.Lastly I also bought the tan pants in 32x32 and those were too small. Too snug in the waist and short in the length and will be returning for the 33's. I may also get them in the 34 length. I see now why some reviews say to order a size up, especially if you're getting the desert sand color pants. In summation, I like the feel and the fit of these pants. I wrench and ride motorcycles and these are perfect for both. I actually dig the cell phone pocket (big enough for the new iPhones/Androids) for tool placement as well. For the price, order away, and put these to work! Order your normal size in the Grey and Navy, size up in the Desert Tan.

Durable, practical and good looking
I've worn these in a dressy situation and they work well. If you're a not dress up guy, but find yourself in need of a comfortable good looking pant from time to time, you might give these a try. I do dress up and these pants are definitely stylish enough. Pair with a puffy vest, black denim jacket or leather, even a sport coat or just a dress shirt. Gives Japanese workwear vibes. Also perfect if you work in a high end labor or trad situation such as pick up and delivery or other jobs where you're going into very wealthy peoples homes. These would also be great at an upscale car garage. Durable and good looking.

Great fit
Great alternative to department issued job pants that require excessive alterations.

Inconsistent Sizing
I have always bought Dickies pants for work, and decided to try out this new style since I work in the office sometimes and it is formal enough for office work or hands-on work.Pros:DURABLE: The material is tough and hasn't torn after months of use. The stitching has been pretty reliable and hasn't loosened, frayed, or come apart in any areas.RELIABLE: Doesn't shrink in the wash.Cons:FITMENT: It's incredibly inconsistent from pair to pair. I can't really say that the waist fits "too small" or "too large" because the sizes of each of the individual pairs of pants are so inconsistent. I bought four pairs of 32W X 32L. Before ever washing them I tried on the four pairs I bought, and they ranged from so tight that they barely closed, all the way to so loose they'd sag without a belt (which is extremely loose for an elastic material). I have never seen this much size inconsistency in any brand of pants.COLOR: For some reason the black dye that Dickies uses for this particular style fades out really quickly. I have been using the same Woolite Darks detergent that I have always used for any of my Dickies pants, but this style has become more gray and faded than pants I've had for years. Not sure why they switched, or if it's because this material just doesn't hold dye as well.
