Product Description . .com You can't make a meal of bubblegum, but it sure can be a delicious distraction. ELO's Greatest Hits is filled with gooey, chewy delights--sonic kitsch like "I Can't Get It Out of My Head" (Lennon on Lithium), "Telephone Line" (Kool & The Gang with violins), and the irresistible "Turn to Stone" (Wagner in spandex)--cultural guideposts, whether you want to admit it or not. ELO combined classical elements with electronic rock and their influence can still be heard in new Turk bands playing with Moogs--for all their Beatles-in-space trappings, the group was also pretty damn catchy. Early ELO was spotty, with flavorful items like "Strange Magic" popping out of the lab nevertheless. By the late '70s, producer-songwriter-singer Jeff Lynne had his electronic pop chamber-group machine oiled to perfection, and this package contains a heavy dose of those longer-lasting-flavor years, with well-chosen dabs of essential chewing pleasure. --Don Harrison

Fun rewind to the ELO years
Fantastic CD with most of their greatest hits. I love jamming to this in my Jeep but my husband just doesn't understand why I like them. I grew up listening and "they have a great beat that you can dance to, Dick".Jeff Lynne and company were my first introduction to synths and electronic music, though they do not fall into this category. Even though the group was huge during the disco era, they are one of the few groups from this period to stand the test of time and keep making records. They still perform, and put on an excellent how. If you are an ELO fan, you will enjoy this collection. This CD even inspired me to order much of their back catalog. I can't play any of it on my radio stations, but it's just so much fun to listen to. The songs sound very upbeat, even when the subject matter they discuss is not so happy."Last Train to London" is not among these, but perhaps that tune is not a "great hit". Still, I would have liked to see it included.

All The Essential Hits Are Here!!!
All the essential hits are here. The only two complaints I have about this collection is: Why "Rockaria!" instead of "Do Ya"? "Do Ya is a hit and "Rockaria!" is not. The other complaint is that "Showdown" fades out early when it should run out to 4:09. Other than that it is perfect. No hits off the later albums and no hits from the Xanadu soundtrack. The pinnacle of their recording projects is "Out of The Blue" and after that it was mediocre material. I liked a few songs off "Discovery", but for the most part I didn't like it all that much. I am satisfied with this collection from start to finish. Every song is a classic hit and reflects the mastery of blending classical elements with rock. You get the hard core electric guitars on Ma-Ma-Ma-Belle with the violins, violas and cellos. An interesting combination indeed. Not very many rock bands could pull this sort of thing off or even dared to try it. The Moody Blues had symphonic music in there album "Days of Future Past", but it was nothing like this. This was over the top in artistry.

70's memories
Back in the days before the term,80's metal ever entered my vocabulary, there was my 70's childhood and ELO was a part of it.I've always considered ELO to be a Beatles soundalike band and this album contains a lot of their best known FM contemporary radio hits.Their unique rock/pop/classical fusion sound was hugely successful. You can't go wrong with Telephone Line,Evil Woman,Strange Magic,Livin Thing and the sweep you off your feet track,Turn to Stone. Some people might consider this to be bubblegum, but these songs are very catchy and fun to listen to and after all,it was the 70's and songwriter/band member Jeff Lynne was at the top of his game. The only notable exclusion from this collection was Don't Bring Me Down but if you're just a casual fan, this will work very well. This is a good album to pull out every now and then when you want to hear and remember music from a bygone era with irresistable melodies and feel good lyrics and is very enjoyable and will definitely perk up your ears.

I have enjoyed ELO’s music for many years. It is not elevator or hard rock. Music that will stand the test of time.
