DOVO Carbon Ebony Steel Straight Razor

Like a piece of art
Crazy sharp, holds an edge very nicely if you're careful with it. The good and dark wood combo looks amazing. The lettering/scribing on the blade isn't very clear, IMHO. Almost looks like it was stenciled on??? Not really a complaint, just a bit disappointed.Over all, very happy with it. If you strop it before each use, you will get a LOT of use out it before you need to have the blade sharpened.

You get what you pay for.
Started shaving with straight razors a year ago. My first one was a cheap $25 one that did a wonderful job for what it costed. Since then I've been through 3-4 different razors, each one with unique problems that always made me default to my original razor.I really didn't want to spend $200+ for a razor, but I was tires of wasting money on cheap stuff. Upon arriving, it wasn't as sharp as I would've liked it to be. It sharpens very easily and appears to hold sharpness very well. Overall, my experience with this has been very premium.

Beautiful product, but not ready to use
This is a gorgeous product, but despite the company's claims, this is absolutely not shave ready. Stropping is also not enough to get it ready... it will need a complete honing service to get it usable, which is horribly frustrating. Can you imagine buying a kitchen knife for $250 and it showed up dull as a butter knife??

Great shaving razor
I've had a hobbyist's interest in straight razor shaving since about 2001, and I have bought many of them. From antique collectors, custom knife makers, even a couple of Dovo blades. Some have been good, but few were actually sharp enough to do a proper shave without tearing up your face.I'm bleeding a little as I write this, but that is my fault not the blade. It's one of the sharpest razors I've owned, out of the box. I've stropped it of course but it didn't require honing at all.I recommend newbies look up the proper way to use this, and expect your face to take some time to get used to it, maybe a week or so depending on the frequency of the shave. The razor is also gorgeous.

Blade dulled in <6months even w/stropping
Can someone please confirm if my blade came professionally sharpened or if I am maintaining the blade incorrectly based off these details below:¹I have a full beard not grown out long, where I only need to shave each side of the jaw/cheek area & around mustache area to keep beard looking clean aka I barely have much to shave.²I shave every 3 days.³The blade was sharp enough for close shave from purchase.⁴Blades washed + patted dry after shaving.⁵I use a leather stropping belt EVERY time prior to shaving.-Fabric side first, then longer on the leather side last.I have not used this blade in 3months as it COMPLETELY dulled where stropping does nothing now only 5-6months after purchase.I hope someone can help, thanks.

Elegant and cuts like a hot knife through butter
Love the elegant design of the razor as well as the ease of cutting through facial hair and with pin point precision when lining up your facial hair lines. The blade quite literally glides across you face with ease when shaving. Such a beautifully designed razor I don't know if I want to use it for shaving regularly or display it like a museum piece. Dovo really demonstrates top shelf quality in the design and functionality of this razor.

It certainly _looks_ beautiful
I went with this one based on a review of another one, and the guy seemed pretty convincing. But this is the second one I've actually seen in person and it might not be as good as the one that was like 40 bucks. It seems to be to be stopped before even finishing one shave! What I do like about it is the little curves on the backside that give you some decent control. The verdict is still out for me, but conclusion so far is it's not worth the money.Update: got a vintage Genco off eBay, hand restored. There were plusses and minuses there, too, and this one seems sharper than that one. There are so many factors that go into it... technique, hair type, the sharper the easier to chip... turns the art of shaving into somewhat of a hobby, and a learning experience. Try more than one razor and have fun!One more update, the base of the blade closest to the scales is too dull... Doesn't seem to have been sharpened all the way to the end. That keeps it from being 4 or 5 stars.

Well-crafted design
This razor came shave ready and I found it to be well crafted and beautiful in design. Although, this razor is not for beginners due to the Spanish Point and perceived light weight. One cannot rush your shave with this particular style of razor. The tip serves a purpose, so research is required to learn how to make use of properly. Whereby, the tip can easily cut you several times during a shave if not careful. Albeit, once you come to learn how to use this razor. The fancy tipped razor is good for detail shaving and some in grown hairs with the Spanish Point. As far as honing and stropping this razor with its fancy spine, it is no different than my normal straight razors.
