Star Wars Black Series Lead Villain 1

Like most everyone else I am eagerly anticipating Episode VII: The Force Awakens. None of us really know much about Kylo Ren, but this figure gives us a little more insight.Underneath the soft goods hood, I realized that Kylo Ren isn’t wearing a mask, but a full helmet. It looks similar to Darth Vader’s, especially in the back. This is news to me, I just assumed it was a mask. The soft goods hood is very well done and I’m glad it’s not sculpted plastic. And the hood is actually its own piece, so when you turn the figures head, the hood turns with it. The scarf style piece around his neck is molded plastic with a good texture that hinders the neck and head articulation a bit, but since it’s a rubbery plastic you can manipulate it to get some range of motion from the head area. The soft goods robe covers a softer plastic robe underneath which gives the figure a nice, full robed look. The soft goods robe is even double layered so it’s not see-through.Overall you get standard articulation for this figure like we’ve seen with previous Black Series waves, and Marvel Legend figures. I was a bit bummed out at first that the elbows weren’t double jointed, but it matters not since you can still get Kylo to hold his saber with both hands, or one handed if you want. The ab crunch joint and pivot are not hindered by the belt or soft goods robe at all which is a plus as well. I wish they had included a force push alternate hand, but no biggie. I like the lightsaber a lot, it turned out really well. I like that the beam can be removed and it’s all one single piece. I would have also liked if there was a peg to attach the unlit hilt to the belt, but that’s yet another small gripe. Since the figure is mostly all black, there isn’t much in the way of paint. The silver on the face of the helmet and the silver on the belt turned out nice, no sloppiness or bleeding on my figure.This figure of Kylo Ren just heightens my excitement and anticipation for the film. I’m glad they’re putting these figures out in advance of the film rather than the month of, or even after. If you’ve been collecting the Black Series line, you’re going to like this figure. I really like the design and execution of Kylo Ren here, this figure comes FULLY APPROVED.

I didn't really care much for Kylo Ren until I saw the Force Awakens. After watching the movie, I'm still not the biggest Kylo Ren fan but the figure was much more tempting so I bought it. Upon getting the figure I was very impressed with the style and the quality. It actually seems to be of a higher quality than my other Black Series figures.The articulation is about as good as all my other Black Series figures with the exception that the joints seem to be a little stiffer and easier to pose. It is really easy to get this figure to stand without much effort. I don't want to go into every facet of the articulation but it is very much like the rest of the Black Series but the right arm and the head are somewhat limited due to the rubbery cloak. This hasn't really impeded my ability to pose the figure in the way I like so it hasn't bothered me. In general, articulation is good but not great.The details are very nice. They are not perfect and not identical to the movie costume but in general they look great. The helmet from shape to proportion looks very much like the movie. I know some people don't like the soft goods material used on the cape and hood and while it does have somewhat of a gym shorts looking material, I think it looks nice and could have been far worse. The lightsaber is surprisingly detailed for such a little accessory. It has the general shape and cutouts of the movie saber and I think it looks great. What I especially like is that the blade is removable leaving just the hilt if you prefer to display it that way. The blade is also a little different. In the movie, the two guard blades never meet up with the main blade as far as I ever saw but they did that with this figure. It's different but I actually don't dislike it. The saber is unique in general for the series and they seem to capture the fiery nature in the mold and the red color was done fairly well.I would have liked a saber blade that matched the movie a bit more and an option of two sabers blade up and blade down would have been excellent. Also I really would have liked a different set of attachable hands for different poses but I didn't think the lack of these elements justified knocking one star from the rating.In general I really like the figure and am very satisfied with the purchase. If you're a Kylo Ren fan then I highly recommend this figure for your collection. If you're a general fan of the series and you're interested in this figure, for the price of anywhere under $30 I can still recommend this. I like it about as much as my Revoltech Boba Fett figure which for me as a huge Boba Fett fan, says a lot.

This figure is amazing. Whether you plan to display this figure inside or outside of the box or just play with it, this figure is the one to get!! Hasbro did a really good job designing this figure so almost nothing hinders the articulation. His head is a bit hard to move because of the small rubber cape and hood but it doesn't really bother me. His knees are double jointed and he has an ankle swivel which I really love. As for the look, Hasbro did an amazing job. I really love the blend between the rubber and cloth and I was glad that they went with a cloth robe to allow easy articulation. His light saber is connected to the two side-guards so it is a little different from how it is in the movie but that's because you are able to remove the light saber part to display him with the hilt only. The hilt has a great paint job and I love it. Very detailed overall. This figure is great and it is a must have for any Star Wars collector/fan.
