I barbeque quite a lot throughout the year, rain or shine, and have just gotten tired of using lighter fluid for my charcoal. Not only is it getting more expensive, but I just hate having that smell of burnt fuel all over the neighborhood and even in my house. I tried using newsprint to light the charcoal, but that was not necessarily a better solution. After looking around for some paraffin cubes to use as a fire starter, I came across these fire starters from Melt Candle.They are a combination of heavy wax and wood waste pressed into small squares. You just break off one square from a pre-scored sheet and light it with a match. They light easily and burn for 7-10 minutes before being consumed. Water doesn't seem to affect them and I have successfully started my BBQ in the rain. They are not entirely odorless when burning, but are much better than the name brand lighter fluid I was using before, and I can't detect any unusual flavor in my meats. Sometimes I could taste the lighter fluid.These things are ideal for starting charcoal, taking camping, or keeping in your emergency kit. The squares cost about 10 cent apiece. My lighter fluid cost probably 3 times that per fire, so these starters are one of the better bargains out there. Overall, I really like these fire starters. They are easy to light, burn long enough to start a decent fire, don't flare up, are waterproof, and super convenient for camping, picnics, or emergencies. Recommended!

These light immediately and do a great job getting a fire going. I use 3-4 squares with kindling to start a fire. I removed a star because unlike last purchase, the scoring to break off individual pieces is almost nonexistent. See photos. So they kind of fall apart when trying to separate pieces.

Lovet his starter. It lit easily and really starts fire very quickly (even with small piece). I had tried other products before, but this is the best one I had so far.

I use these to light my firepit. I break one sheet into 4 pieces and straddle them across two pieces of kindling. I then place a few pieces on either side and on top. They light the kindling perfectly every time! My better 1/2 was complaining about me using gasoline to start the firepit although I thought flames shooting 15' or more in the air was pretty cool, she didn't....lol Theses fire starters keep both of us happy. I highly recommend!
