Ashwagandha has many uses for ailments that plague humans. Surprisingly it's very effective in pets too especially canines. Today I want to share my experience that has changed the standard of living of my pet and made it healthy.HypothyroidismModern medicine has always addressed the solutions with cutting edge technology but when it comes to treating the root cause, Ayurveda shines very brightly.My pet was lethargic, had issues with hair, otitis (ear infections) and endured it for quite a while until it was finally diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Whenever your pet is diagnosed as such always go for a full Thyroid panel namely: Total T4, Free T4, Total T3, Free T3, TSH and TgAA. Peter Dobias has a good video on YouTube explaining the percentages of Free T4 and T3.Once you have the test done done, do not be alarmed if TgAA is elevated more than 25.Methodology to correct Hypothyroidism in Canines:Take any cellulose capsule of 300mg strength for dosing.Start with 100mg dose for a week or two.Then give 150mg at breakfast and lunch. If your dog throws up bile do not be alarmed it's normal to adjust at this new dosage which will go away in a few days.Test for all parameters after three weeks to adjust dosage depending on the weight of your pet. The stated method works for canines up to 20kg. A higher dose of 500mg per day maybe required for dogs weighing more. Dosing and testing on a monthly basis will tell you what's the exact dose your pet requires.Try to give a multivitamin for a month and stop. If it's on kibble change it to egg whites and half yolk or feed home cooked chicken to fulfill nutritional requirements. Kibble maybe introduced later when the T4 level is normal just in case to eliminate any environmental toxins.Results achieved:Initial diagnosis T4 - 0.6After three weeks of Ashwagandha at 150mg twice for breakfast and lunch; T4 - 1.04 (Base line achieved)After two months at the same dosage; T4 - 1.57Initial TgAA - 48After two months, TgAA- 35Consult your veterinarian if you want to treat your pet with holistic approach which is healthy and natural instead of Levothyroxine.Ashwagandha works on the Pituitary Axis and stimulates the downstream flow which helps secrete TSH, T4 and T3. In canines Thyroid is responsible for 70% of T4 whereas Pituitary generates 30%. This is why even if TgAA is elevated, one must not be worried.Today my pet is enthusiastic, lively and full of life.
