Great Starter Edger
I will admit I am still a novice leatherworker, but I think this is a very decent edger. It takes a bit of practice to get used to the angle, but once you get that down it cuts well. My gripe with this is that the edge does not last very long before needing to be stropped. There is a massive difference between before and after sharpening with a strop similar to a skiving knife. As this is the only edger I own I cannot provide any comparison with a more premium item, but I find this good for the work I do. Would recommend for anyone getting into leatherworking especially on a budget.

takes a little bit of practice but is a good tool

Easy to use but needs sharpening
Tool is designed for easy use and is well balanced. Had to strop the edge to sharpen it fully but for a commercially made tool it wasn't bad. Most of the tools I have purchased needed some touch-up before use anyway.

Avoid, poor manufacturing
Dull, head is misshapen and uneven, would not cut even with immense pressure. Angle of the blade makes no sense, looks like it failed QC.

French Edge Skiving Tool
Very sharp, works very well. It will work nicely for all the leather skiving I have to do.

Great tool for a few dollars
I like fit and finish of this French skiving tool. As with any tool with a blade, you will need to strop it so that you get the best results. Be careful when removing the protective coating from the blade before use, it can be quite annoying to get off. I use this for skiving down card sleeves on my wallets.

came completely dull
I REALLY hate to leave a bad review. mine came almost completely unsharpened. i spent an hour stropping it, until i said "screw it" and got out my pocket knife sharpener. i got *ONE* cut worth of "pencil eraser shavings off the top" out of it before it dulled again. spent the afternoon wearing the edge down, and still nothing. i'm gonna have to grind the edge myself.i mean, i am really disappointed. i got a cheap, chinese made skiving knife from some fly-by-night company on the same day. both came dull, but i got the chinese blade to shave hair, and i'm happy with it... i can't get this to get an edge at all.EDIT: after grinding the edge, it is finally being worthwhile. it should have arrived at this level of sharpness. i'll boost up the score for being able to hold an edge, but i'm still disappointed that it came THIS dull. it still needs work, but at least it's cutting leather now instead of making eraser shavings.
