Handforged Samurai Katana, Damascus steel/1095 High Carbon Steel, Full Tang, Antique Copper Tsuba, Solid Wood Saya

The media could not be loaded. This is my second Bohiyu katana. Both of them are very substantial and well made. I am especially pleased with this one. The Tsuka, the blade, and the Saya are all exceptional. Let’s start with the Tsuka. I asked that the Ito be changed to leather keeping the same wrap pattern. It looks and feels fantastic. The wrap pattern is especially appealing(see pics). The samegawa is genuine too. The Hamon on the blade is just WOW! I was a little concerned at first as it is advertised as Damascus yet I could not find a fold in the steel anywhere. That really does not matter to me as the Hamon is so beautiful and prominent. One of the very best I own. Oh, its quite sharp too!Take a good look at the Saya. It’s very unusual and quite attractive. Everything matches so well with this sword even with fairly common fittings that still look like they comfortably belong on this katana. It has many features well beyond the selling point of this sword. I am very pleased with my purchase and can see another Bohiyu sword in my future.

Upon initial use I was satisfied with the quality of the sword. Fittings are tight, and the weight seems to be just right. The leather wrap could be tighter as it is ever so lightly loose towards the guard, but this flaw has made a slight divet in the wrap in which my thumb on my hand fits perfectly. So this flaw makes it feel much better in my hand. It is extremely loose in the saya. The edge grind is slightly off with one side more ground then the other, and lastly the steel seems to be too soft.

First off let me start by saying the blade was do exceptionally well. With nice clear patterns and a good humon. The specifications said it was leather wrapped, but it came pleather wrapped. You would think with real ray skin and folded steel. Along with clay tempered hamon they would wrap the tsaka in real leather. Also the pommel was not secured to the Handel very well at all. But I'm only displaying so it is what it is.

This is really impressive and better than I expected. I practice Taijijian, Aikido and Iaido. I have a Jian, bokken and a cheap iaitō, but I wanted a shinken. In truth, this will spend most of its time on the wall above my home office desk so no need to go for an expensive katana. I'm not usually allowed to have such nice things, but this is impressive and will work well for my purpose. This is really beautifully made and it inspires me to both work hard and practice. I may try some tameshigiri, but that's really not my main focus.

Exactly what I wanted. Well made and delivered earlier then expected.

This sword is absolutely beautiful. The cloudy polish on the folded steel blade contrasts with the temper line. The leather maki is tight and the copper fittings are beautiful.

The media could not be loaded. blade is really sharp.hamon looks good.ito was loose,but it has double ito wrap.I put some lacquer on it,now it doesn’t move.ive put this blade through a lot of punishment cutting bamboo,and the blade has held up nicely. No rolls,or chips,or dents,making bad cuts with dried ,brown bamboo. Blade is still in good condition.excellent choice this katana is.
