Love these hinges!
We recently bought a large vintage chest from a private seller here that had these exact invisible hinges, which my husband and I had never seen before but think they're terrific! The entire chest needed to be refurbished, including the hinges because they were originally brass plated but because this chest was very well used, the hinges had gotten corroded...although I must say-they still worked great! But since we were refurbishing the chest, we decided to replace all four hinges.Since we had never seen this type of hinge before I was hoping I could find replacements. I found the brand name (Soss) on the hinges and immediately looked to Amazon for availability, and of course, found them immediately.I ordered four of the unfinished version and after a month of working on the large chest on weekends (it's 65" long x 19" deep x 25" tall), we installed them this weekend. They work great! They fit right where the old ones used to be.One note: we went with the same size hinges because the mortises were already all there, but if we were to install these from scratch we would go with the next size up because the top to this chest is 1.5" thick. The person that made our vintage chest used four of these hinges which work great, but are a little too close to the edges. The next size up would have put the hinges more toward center in the jams.Pictures attached are the before's and after's (before hinge/after hinge & before refurbish/after refurbish) of the chest we installed these hinges into.

I purchased these hinges for my cabinet I was making with hidden door in which normal cabinet hinges would not work. I received these and was very impressed with the fit and finish. There was a bit of engineering that went into these pieces.I used the provided stencil to lay out my holes and then used a forstner bit with a chisel to create the mortises to insert the hinges and it took a little bit of fine tuning but I ultimately got the exact fit that I wanted. These are basically invisible from all angles unless you know exactly where to look. They are strong enough for my application and you can size up if needed. I wouldn't hesitate a second to buy more SOSS hinges for future projects. They give a very professional appearance and show attention to detail.

These hinges were heavy duty, well built hinges. They handled a heavy load (bookshelf unit) with no problem. They take a little extra time to get fitted into their mortise, but it is well worth it. If you can plan your project so that you drill the mortises before assembly, you can use a drill press with a forstner bit to create the mortises, making it more precise and easier at the same time. I would buy more of these hinges if the need arises.

Really good hardware!
Making the mounting holes for these requires precision, but once you get them installed they are so nice! No ugly hinge pins sticking out to scratch up your furniture and get caught on straps. And it results in a professional looking job that will get lots of positive comments.

Great hinge for the right application
I built my entire kitchen from scratch. The only thing I didn't know how to make was the corner cabinet hinge. Anytime I went anywhere I was looking at peoples corner cabinet hinges. They very between a English hinge, piano hinge, and the SOSS. I liked the hidden aspect of the SOSS so I decided to use that. Here is my advise, take your time setting them in the door. I drilled out all the holes before I assembled the door. They make a template to use a router but I didn't find that necessary. Not sure anyone cares but here is how I did it:I clamped the rail into my drill press with center marked. I used a caliper to measure the thickness of the hinge and the width. I marked the rail with the length of the hinge and used a forstner bit that was the same size as the width (you can clamp both rails together and mark them for the length of the hinge at the same time so they light up). Mark the rail with the depth of the hinge and preset your drill press to stop at that depth. Drill out the entire length of the hinge cleaned it with a chisel and then go back and reset it for the second depth where the actually hinge portion hides. It takes a little extra time doing it this way but it saves you from buying the template.I gave the review a 4 out of 5 because they were to be stainless or nickel and came in brass. I wasn't in the mood to return them and it was holding up the finishing of my kitchen since they were hidden inside the doors I wasn't worried about it.

Beefy hinges and you will want an install jig
These hinges have very little play in them and have worked will on various furniture projects where a hinge was needed but not desirable to show.I didn't buy the router jig but I did make my own. It wasn't too difficult to make the jig but it did take a considerable amount of time with trial and error. My jig suffered from router dust caking in the guide and this the routed hole was undersized. It too several passes of routing, cleaning, and routing again to make the hole. The official jig seems to address this issue with empty space at the ends.
