Extremely impressive performance and easy to maintain.
This is hands down the best pump I have used for my application, which is a notoriously difficult one: ducks. I have two Peking ducks that produce a LOT of waste into the 4' x 4' pond they are in, and this little pump takes on that challenge like a champion. Continues to work regardless of the work load it is exposed to.Maintenance is a breeze, there are four yellow plastic screws that hold the outer shell together (which does a great job of keeping things out of the propeller of the pump). I wish they were made of stainless steel, because I have to be very careful as to not strip them with a metal flat head screwdriver. Regardless, the pump comes out of the shell and separates into several easy-to-clean parts, and is easily reassembled. This pump really does check all the boxes of a great design, minus the shell screws. I would recommend spending the additional money on this pump in order to save the money of replacing the cheaper ones, and fighting with trying to maintain them as well.

Great pump
I have this pump connected to our koi pond to run main pond water through a series of rapids and bog filter replacing the same pump of a smaller capacity. This was a great improvement, and the pump does a great job. It works well on an Alexa controlled outlet to produce great flow for four hours twice a day. I highly recommend this pump.

The pumps lasts about two years, that is normal.
If you purchase a pressure pond filter system I'll be up front with you, these pumps last around 2 years. Because everything just snaps together, replacement is easy. I have two pump filter systems, the traditional skimmer and waterfall system and the pressure pond filtration system. I keep an extra pump for the traditional system so when the pressure system is down, no big deal, the Koi are still being taken care of. I use the pressure system because it has a UV light that kills bacteria and somewhat controls algae blooms.

Failed in one day, killed two fish in my pond. DO NOT BUY
Do NOT purchase! I put this in my pond yesterday and it worked fine at first. When I woke up today, the pump was not running. I thught the ground fault tripped but no, the pump was dead in the water. Not only that, TWO OF MY FISH WERE DEAD, and the remaining 6 fish were all at the top of the water with their mouths out of the water trying to breathe. They were totally lethargic, not even trying to move away when I got to within inches of them like they normally do. Turns out they were electrocuted! When this pump failed, it was putting an electrical charge into the pond and this causes fish to think they can't breathe underwater. YES, this is a thing, google it: "pond fish electrocuted can't breathe" ("Electrocution can cause fish to die from lack of oxygen because it completely disrupts their brain function, preventing their breathing reflex from working.") Luckily I caught it in time and unplugged it before the rest of my fish were dead. After around 20 minutes, they came back to life and started swimming and breathing normally. But two were dead already before i got there. Something inside the motor of this unit came loose or frayed and caused the unit to become "hot" with electricity. POOR QUALITY, This should NEVER happen with a pond pump! I will be contacting Laguna about this.

Laguna Max-Flo 2900 Waterfall and Filter Pump
We had purchased a filter from a dealer - he convinced us to get a smaler pump on it to slow the flow of water so that the UV light could have more affect on the algae. We went with his opinion. Then we discovered that the smaller pump did not have the power to lift the water to the top of the falls. My daughter urged me to go on line. I was shocked to see that the prices were much lower than buying from the dealer we had frequented - and I could scrutinize many products right from the comfort of my home. The pump is fantastic - lifts the water with no problem - and I have seen absolutely no difference in the affectiveness of the UV light. My pond is crstal clear. I use a microbial algae killer when I first open the pond - it knocks the algae back - and the filter with the UV light and the Laguna Max-flo 2900 handle the upkeep. The pump is everything that printed on the web site. Would not hesitate to buy another one. It is efficient, powerful, the price was exellent and it was delivered to my door in a timely fashion. What more could anyone want?

A great small pond pump
A great small reliable pond pump as compared to Laguna Max's smaller mag type impeller drive pump. The 960's impeller design is similar to Laguna Max's larger pumps allowing for the handling of debris and other particles efficiently thus less likely to clog and stop your pump. This is very important reliability wise if your intended use is for filtration and aeration of your pond's water, especially if you have ornamental Koi or other types of pond fish. Besides the 960, I have a larger Laguna Max pump for a water fall into my pond. Beside the aesthetics the waterfall provides additional daytime and backup aeration to the 960. I've tried other pond pumps, but I find that Laguna Max pumps are the best and most important energy efficient pond pumps around. As for the price, you'll find that the price is limited on the low end for all Laguna Max authorized retailers. Very important the warranty is tied to authorized dealers only. So why buy from this Amazon dealer? The speed that you can get this pump or other pond pump's especially in an emergency when your main pump fails and of course Amazon's guarantee and return policy. Good performer
The Laguna 2000 pump came packaged new, yet upon opening it I found broken plastic pieces rattling inside the housing. They were broken plastic housing screws and interior mount posts for the pump. I decided to try the pump and it worked perfect. It was Quiet and Powerful for my pond-waterfall feature. So I zip tied the housing together and because its holding togther good enough, I am keeping it. Seems the breakage was from the package being thrown around.I went with Laguna as I also have a secondary pump which is a Laguna. Less powerful than this 2000 but am very pleased with its performance and efficiency over the last 5 years.Minus 1 star as I received it damaged.
