Grill without a Grill
Like probably a lot of people here, I found this because America's Test Kitchen recommended it. I was thinking about getting a panini press but I didn't want another appliance I wouldn't use regularly cluttering up my kitchen. I liked the idea of something that just used the range and didn't take up a lot of storage space. And I figured I could also do a bit of grilling indoors with it, so it has multiple uses. Now that I have it and have used it a bit, here is what I like about it: It's thick and heavy, thicker than a pan with just some ridges in it. I put the high output gas burner under it and it gets HOT. Seriously hot. Hot enough to grill with. The thickness helps avoid hot spots and so it cooks pretty evenly. It puts nice grill marks in meat and the ridges are high enough that the fat drains off into the channels. You can do 4 burgers on it at a time. So basically this and your range means you now have a small indoor grill. When it comes time to clean, well first you are going to wait, and wait, and wait some more for it to cool down. Remember - this is a thick piece of iron it needs all of that thermal mass to cook evenly, but the downside is it takes a while to cool after you use it. Then, once you get down to scrubbing it clean, it isn't terrible, the pre-seasoning helps a lot, but you aren't going to wipe it off and be done in 10 seconds either. You get to clean every channel and every ridge, but the design is such that the channels are wide and the ridges are smooth and flat, so it isn't fussy work to get in there and get everything off. Then you need to dry it off before you put it away just like any other cast iron pan. It is a bit longer than cleaning a smooth pan but not so much that you will be deeply annoyed by it, either. Is this going to replace your grill outside? Probably not. But for a small group of people, a single steak, a panini, or some burgers or bratwurst, this is going to perform very well and you are going to be very happy with it. I am already thinking about how it is going to be really nice to have this when the weather is terrible and I don't want to grill outside. It is also going to easily outlast you if you take reasonable care of it. That's not something you can say very often these days. For what this costs, get it. You won't regret it.

It Just Works. No fuss.
You get exactly what you expect - a heavy, cast iron piece of equipment that heats up evenly, gets REALLY hot, and cooks food beautifully. The ridges make it a minor pain to clean but that's a small price to pay. You can use this on the stove, on your grill, or over a campfire and get the same results.

Nice griddle
Very handy for stovetop cooking for steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs or whatever. Like that is flat. It’s a little on the heavy side but good quality. Would buy again

Good choice for stovetop grilling for one or two people.
Great for stovetop grilling. Easy cleaning. Cooks evenly.

Good cast iron, good pre-seasoning, good for one burner.
This is good cast iron - and one should be aware of the pros & cons of cast iron.. but as cast iron goes this is a very good piece. This works well when cooking over one gas burner - and I find it great when cooking for two persons. Lodge does a good job with their pieces, in my experience. The grill ridges are high enough such that the cooked piece is held high enough so that the food does not slump into the grooves (an issue if the grill ridges are not high enough). If this is the right size for you - then I definitely recommend this piece.

Excellent quality
I wanted a healthy grill pan, and this one does not disappoint. I’ve made turkey burgers, grilled onions, grilled, eggplant, and grilled mushrooms on it. Perfect for one to two people and will not heat up the house in the summertime as roasting in the oven would. It is preseasoned well and I always add a thin coat of avocado, oil after I clean it.

Perfect with a little help
Food was sticking to this pre-seasoned grill so I re-seasoned the grill. Night & day difference! Pretty close to not stick now. I highly recommend re-seasoning all your cast iron cookware even if they say pre-seasoned. If you wish to do so, go to Lodge's official website (type in "re-season" in their search box). Follow Lodge's article directions exactly. Tips: 1) use 100% safflower or grapeseed oil. 2) apply oil w/old clean T-shirt, paper towels leave lint 3) once thin layer of oil is applied, rub in directly w/your hand to assure an even layer & to get into all the nooks & crannies. 4) Close all bedroom doors, open a window & turn on hood fan. You will be amazed at the results!
