Didn't disappoint
After trialling her with an imitation leather copycat version of DMs, I finally gave in to her badgering and bought my teenaged daughter a real pair last Christmas. I had hesitated because being real, they are pricey and I worried that she'd get bored of them during her fashion experimentation phase. My daughter is a vegetarian and she insisted on vegan ones, so I also worried that I was paying too much as they might not be as durable as real leather. However in the end my worries were unfounded. She has worn them continuously for nearly a year and they still look great (as compared to the fake ones which looked pretty bad a year on) and she wears them even to school (and is allowed to). They did need breaking in and hurt her feet a bit at first, but she didn't care as she was highly motivated to be able to wear them daily. I'm even tempted to get a pair myself....but that would guarantee that my daughter would stop wearing hers. As we're the same size maybe I'll just wear hers when she's not looking.

Seven pairs and counting!
I've been buying and wearing Dr Martens for about seven years now and I own several pairs, all of which I have bought after trying them on beforehand in a store. Knowing the product well, I know that in general I wear a size 7, despite wearing a size 8 in all other brands of footware. I am a woman and so I would suggest if you can't try on a pair beforehand, perhaps go for a size smaller than you would in a trainer or shoe. A walking boot is a good comparison but these boots are generally on the larger side as they are intended to be unisex.I had been looking for a dark brown pair for a few weeks and was lucky enough to stumble upon this pair on Amazon for less than £80 and although this might seemed like a lot of money to pay for a pair of boots, knowing the product well, I knew it was a good deal. I couldn't find another similar pair for less than £110 brand new on the internet or my more local stores. This pair is a lot softer in the leather than my previous pairs, which leads me to believe they may also be a little less weather resistant, so it's important to use some kind of protector on the leather. Although Docs are somewhat water resistant (fear no puddle) they are not repellent or all weather resistant, so be careful! These boots generally take some time to break in and shape to your foot. Because the leather stretches it's important not to go rambling in them straight away. I recommend wearing them a few times for short periods just to get used to them. It's very common to get blisters between your heel and the top of your foot if you don't break them in properly, and even then, you might still get some rubbing. If you're concerned I recommend sticking large plasters to the inside heel of the shoe for the first week or so. Please don't let this put you off, as once they are comfortable, these are the best brand I have ever owned.Pros for Docs in General*The soles are thick and resistant, after years of walking around in them, there is still much wear left.*The leather stretches*Feet are kept very dry in rain and walking through big puddles*Last for years*Loads of varieties available*Unisex*Shoelaces last (I've not needed to replace a pair yet!)*Can pull on easily with the tagCons for Docs in General*Can be uncomfortable when new*Patterned pairs can erode quickly (even though the shoe itself is hard wearing)*On the large size for most women*More expensive than other brands

LOVE them!
I absolutely love these boots. They are stylish, comfortable, hard wearing and the best part: VEGAN! I have worn them a lot for a few months now in dry and wet weather and they are extremely functional. I did not have to ‘break them in’ at all due to the softness of the faux leather but despite the amount of wear they have already had they are still in perfect condition. To clean them I just wipe them with a damp cloth and they look good as new. My mum wants a pair now too so I am sure to invest in a pair for her for Christmas! My non vegan friends are also considering switching to these now too! Thank you Dr Martens for creating a fantastic cruelty free alternative of this much loved style, and Amazon for stocking them at a great price.

IMHO - not worth half the price.
Very disappointed. I've owned three pairs of DMs since 1991 although this is the first vegan pair I've bought. Always had size 9s and they always fitted like glove. Not these. The finishing on these is shoddy by comparison and they are cramped and uncomfortable. In the left toe there is some weird bulge of rubbery glue, its very slight but it crushes the outside of my toe (I tried them on indoors). The symmetry of the lace flaps is also off with one being notably further forward than the other. The piping just above the stitching also sticks out and is poorly finished although to be fair you can see that from the stock photos. What a shame to see DMs go the way of so many other brands with slackening quality and finishing. These are not a £100 pair of boots by any stretch of the imagination and are on their way back.
