Streamlight ProTAC 2AAA KICKS BUTT!!
If any of you watch YouTube...look up Nutnfancy's review of this light. He says it all...Originally, I was looking at either the Preon-1 or 2, or the Pro Stylus, and ended up seeing this one on the page for the Stylus here on Amazon... so I clicked on it and opened it up. And I am glad I did! I was looking for an EDC flashlight that was light enough to carry in my pocket every day, but wasn't going to break the bank in terms of cost, and this fits that role perfectly. I didn't want to spend more than $30 on this light because I already have an Olight M20 Warrior, and an Olight T25 which I LOVE both...but even the T25 is a little too big for EDC (at least for me). The Preon 1 is a twist top (to turn on/off) and I wanted a tailcap pushbutton, and that's why the Pro Stylus was my original choice. (I STILL may buy the Preon-1, because for only $32 bucks that thing looks like a powerhouse of a mini flashlight!) However, I ended up going with this one instead of the Pro Stylus due to the higher lumens and it has a high/low/strobe function, which the Pro Stylus does not. And in comparison to the Preon-1, this was a little bigger, and I didn't want to lose the small Preon. And wow...this thing is awesome for such a little pkg.Pro's (for me):Good amount of light: 80 lumens on high, 10 on low.Lightweight. I barely notice it's there.O-rings for water resistance. (I think it says it's waterproof down to 3-5 meters or something like that, but I don't intend on diving with it, so that's fine.)Good quality build.Good price: $29 bucks on Amazon, but I've seen it for less elsewhere.I like that it uses AAA batteries, which are readily available anywhere. (There is a AA version of this light as well, if you want a little bigger version!)Con's:I wish the clip was a little higher, so it rides deeper in my pocket. So I don't lose it.The tailcap button is hard to press. But I'm finding I might like that so it doesn't accidently get turned on in my pocket or bag.I wish it came in other colors: metallic orange, blue, green, etc. Then it's easer to find in a dark bag at night.I wish the high/low beams were right next to each other, instead of it being: Hight (single click), Strobe (double click), and Low (triple click). Put the low before strobe! I'm sure there is some reason for that. But it's not a deal breaker by any means. It fits in my pocket right next to my Spydeco Tenacious just fine. It's about the size of a fat sharpie pen and I barely notice it's there. In fact since I started carrying it, I have to reach down once in a while to feel if it's still there! So here's what I did at home when I first got it. I pulled out my large Maglite, my Olight T25, and a no name Asian brand LED light I bought here on Amazon for 4 bucks (I didn't bother bringing out the M20 because that thing is a beast. I turned all the lights out in my living room and tested them by shining them on the ceiling one at a time. The Maglite and T25 have fairly new batteries, and the little LED has never been used. So the T25 was brightest, the no-name LED was dead last...and this little Streamlight beat that huge Maglite! In terms of brightness, wide beam...it killed my big maglite! I took my new ProTAC outside and shined it out to where my dogs are (about 20m) and it lit up the whole area. I don't think it throws 80m as advertised...but it sure does put out a lot of light. If you're looking for a good quality, high lumen EDC light that won't break the bank...this IS IT. Buy it. Carry it. Love it. You'll be glad you did.UPDATE:Last night after a gig (I moonlight as a musician) I was walking out along the back of the hotel I was at, back to the parking lot and remembered I had my ProTAC in my pocket, so I pulled it out to test it. It was really dark, almost pitch black, and I must say, this light really lit up the entire area. So I'll take back what I said above...this light lit up a couple trash cans and boxes that were out at least 60m from where I was! I shined it down this really long maintenance pathway, and it lit the whole area. I am impressed more than I was before. If you're looking at the Pro Stylus, take a look at this light as well. It's a little bigger diameter-wise...but well worth it in my opinion. 10 out of 5 stars!

After 5 years of nearly every day use, this flashlight is still a CHAMP!
I bought this ProTac 2AAA in August of 2018. As of now, I have had this flashlight for 5 years and have carried it with me nearly every day in my pants pocket. While I don't use this flashlight in any sort of professional setting, I do use it at least briefly nearly every day (~30 seconds or so). Not once in these last 5 years has this flashlight failed me despite the wear and tear that it has. When looking for a flashlight to carry with me every day, I had a few requirements:1. I wanted a slim flashlight that would not bulge out of my pocket or be uncomfortable to carry.2. I wanted 2 or more brightness levels.3. I wanted a low brightness level that was good for anything within arms reach.4. I wanted a runtime of at least a few hours in the low brightness and at least 30 minutes in the high brightness. The ProTac 2AAA is just the right size for me to carry in my front pants pocket every day. It doesn't bulge out much, get caught on anything, doesn't hurt me if I happen to roll over my side and onto it, and I don't even notice it in my pocket just going about my day.Having 2 or more brightness settings makes any flashlight useable in more use cases. For me, I use the low brightness mode 95%+ of the time, but it is nice to have the high brightness for those occasions where low is not enough.Since the vast majority of what I use this flashlight for is things within arms reach like working on cars, computers, looking for dropped items, etc. (basically anything you could use a phone flashlight for), having a low brightness level that is just the right amount was key. I find the low brightness on this flashlight is just right. I don't get blinded by the bloom of light reflecting back at me and it is still helpful even in well-lit environments.A small, slim flashlight means small batteries and a short runtime. I think Streamlight did a great job at balancing the light output with the battery life considering the small packaging of the ProTac 2AAA. Now, I don't use disposable batteries, I use rechargeable AAAs and have since day 1. On a full charge, I easily get 1-2 hours of runtime on low before I even think about swapping the batteries and I feel that 3 hours is achievable though I have not timed it out. On high, I easily get the 30+ minutes of runtime I wanted. There are times where I go weeks without swapping batteries, but I try to swap batteries after a week or two or any time I know I have used the flashlight heavily. In the last 5 years, I have only ended up with dead batteries maybe 5 times. Considering the added flexibility of rechargeable batteries, I think everyone who buys a flashlight that doesn't come with rechargeable batteries should absolutely purchase some. You don't ever need to wait until the batteries are dead or the light output is too low for fear of "wasting" batteries, you can simply swap them out at any time and have full power all over again. Not to mention the money you will save in the long term and smaller environmental impact.Overall, I absolutely love the ProTac 2AAA flashlight. Not once in the last 5 years have I felt the need to replace it or upgrade to something else. It has the light output and battery life I wanted while being durable, reliable, slim, great value, and simply a product I can trust!

Most durable light ever! Buy this!
This is absolutely one of the best small flashlights you can buy. It's the size of a pen or a marker, but gives an incredible amount of light. Great combination of light being spread out, to be able to see plenty around you, but also focused in the middle of the beam so it has a great range to it. Lumens mean nothing if they aren't focused right, and this focuses them perfectly. It can slip into your pocket and you'll hardly notice it there. Powered by AAA batteries, so no need to buy expensive batteries like some flashlights. Simple AAA. The clip can be moved to any place on the narrow part of the body, and turned any way you want it. I used it as a head lamp by turning the clip around and putting it on the bill of a hat. Perfect for dark mornings on the farm when greasing tractors before the day starts.SPEAKING OF FARM WORK.....the real reason I came on here to write this review is because sometime last fall I dropped this flashlight in a cornfield when I was chainsawing trees on a fence line. One day it wasn't in my pocket next to my knife, like it usually was. I figured I lost it, and would just buy a new one. I was sad cuz this light was awesome! Here's the crazy part...I (luckily) accidentally left some branches in the field, and when my boss was planting THE FOLLOWNG SPRING, (yes, that's about 5 months later) he hopped out of the tractor to throw the branches off the field, and happened to look down, and hey, there is my Streamlight ProTac 2AAA sitting in the dirt. He picked it up and it turned right on, no hesitation, no problem.. This thing sat in the dirt, snow, rain, mud, and who knows what else for 5 months! And it still works as if brand new! This is not to mention the countless drops on concrete floors, rolling over on the ground with it in my pocket, (while doing vehicle maintenance/mechanic work) cold/hot, you name it, this thing works like its new. Its a bit scratched up now but no rust and still throwing out as much light as ever. Also, a lot of the one-star reviews for this said that its hard to press the switch. No idea what they're talking about, mine is fine and normal. Strobe mode and low light mode are easy to get to, just a simple half press to get to them. All that to say, one crazy year and a half later after purchasing this light, it has more than proven itself as a durable, bright, convenient, small but awesome flashlight. Every time I ever need a flashlight in the future, it will be a Streamlight. Six stars!!
