I bought these to ferment cucumber pickles in wide-mouth pint jars. After a couple of days, the spring was fully extended and my poor cucumbers were squished down into the bottom of the jar. These would be fine for sauerkraut, but not anything that you want to keep its shape.You also have to be extra careful cleaning them or you'll break the silicone thing trying to put it back in the lid.

These are fantastic! I've made around a dozen batches of kraut, kimchi, and pickled veggies with these so far, and they've worked great for all of them. I mostly use half-gallon jars, but have also used them with quarts. One time I was a little bit short on the amount of kraut I'd made and the kraut was a little below the reach of the spring. However, I found that I could stick two springs together (interweaving the bottom coils of one with the top coils of the other) as a handy extension. Highly recommend.
