Hi there, thank you for contacting Basic Fun, the owners of Knex & Lincoln Logs.  To answer your question, since Lincoln Logs have been around for so long (over 100 years), they have had several different manufacturers that might have tweaked the scale slightly from time to time so we cannot guarantee that the Lincoln Logs produced by Knex (since 1999) will work with previous sets before 1999 but we can guarantee that they will work with sets produced by Knex since 1999. Are these logs manufactured wood?

Greetings from Basic Fun.  Thank you for your inquiry on Lincoln Logs - they are made out of a Beechwood Pine wood and then treated with a stain.  All Lincoln Log toy sets made meet or exceed all applicable rules, bans, and standards for both the United States (Federal and State) and Canada at the time of manufacture.  These include, but are not limited to, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, ASTM F963, Federal Hazardous Substance Act, the Consumer Product Safety Act, Canada Consumer Product Safety Act Toys Regulations, and Canada Consumer Products Containing Lead (Contact with Mouth) Regulations.   Sets are validated by an approved third-party independent lab to ensure compliance to the rules, bans, and standards listed above.” 
The safety of children using Lincoln Logs® (licensed from Hasbro®) products is our paramount concern as a toy company and as a result,  Lincoln Logs are designed from start to finish to be safe.  All components used in LINCOLN LOGS products, including the stain, meet current
{toy safety standards in the United States and Canada and are tested by an independent third-party laboratory to substantiate this claim}.
Additionally, the {water-based} stain has been evaluated by an independent consultant in toxicology and was found to pose no threat to adults or others who might be exposed to the stained logs in the manufacturing process, and especially no threat to children even under the heaviest of play usage.

Thank you for your inquiry.  Some of the Lincoln Logs kits are being produced in the United States and some are being produced in China due to specific testing regulations and production specifications with each kit.  All of our Lincoln Log kits are produced to test & pass modern toy & safety testing as well as quality control.  This particular kit is being produced at accredited China toy factories hand selected by both Basic Fun & the license holder of Lincoln Logs (ie. Hasbro).
