Flawless performance
Super easy installation and it works perfectly on my 40hp Mercury! It allows me to slow troll at 1-1.5 mph which is perfect speed for trout fishing. Without the trolling plate I couldn’t troll less than 3 mph.This purchase is a no brainer if you’re in the market for a trolling plate.

Well Made, Easy to Install.
This is a well made product, and works as advertised. It slowed my 16 foot boat low trolling speed from 3.8 to 1.6 mph. My only gripe is that it takes a lot of power to increase the trolling speed, and it adds a lot of drag at higher speeds. It took 4 mph off of my max speed. I am going to try to trim it down a bit since I only need a minimum trolling speed of 2.5 mph, and would like to get closer to my old max speed. Still a better choice than a kicker motor for me.

Works great with modifications
I bought the ‘short’ Easy Troller to use on a 40 hp Mercury motor in order to get my trolling speed down to between 1.7 & 2.1 mph. However, once installed it reduced my speed to between 0.8 & 1.2 mph. Before ordering, I had read previous reviews about modifying the plate by adding an additional pair of notches to allow the plate to extend only halfway down. Once I did that my trolling speeds were right in the 1.7 to 2.1 range I was trying to achieve. I also changed out the bolt in the center of the plate with a longer one to prevent the plate from bypassing the new set of notches. The Easy Troller seems to be very well-made & sturdy & with care should last the life of the motor itself. I would definitely recommend this product.

Easy Install, Sturdy Plate!
Installation was a snap. The directions were simple and straightforward. However, the plate needs a setting between the full up and full down position. I used a Dremmel Tool to notch a spot exactly half way (about 45 degrees).

Very Effective
The Easy Troll allows me to troll with a 40 hp johnson outboard motor. It is easy to install and contructed very well. I highly recommend this unit to anyone wanting to utilize their higher hp motor for trolling!
